Piper's POV

When the elevator opens to go into the ER, there are still a lot of people rushing around.

"I can't believe that it was this bad." Derek remarks.

I nod my head, agreeing with his statement. I see Ellis standing in the corner, talking to Daniel. The seem to be talking about something, but they don't seem mad at each other, so that seems like a good thing.

"Piper, we need assistance over here!" Derek yells.

I rush over to the gurney and see a patient who looks like he's in his 50's. He has a huge gash on the side of his head, and his chest seems to be bleeding heavily.

"Okay, we need to get an OR, he has a problem bigger than a brain bleed." Derek says. "Get Meredith or Bailey."

I nod my head, finding the nearest general surgeon. I see Meredith standing at the front desk,  doing something on the tablet.

"Dr. Shepherd needs your assistance on a surgery." I say to her.

She nods her had and we rush to the OR floor. We hop in the elevator, waiting for it to get to the floor we need.

"Thank you." she says to me.

I give her a confused look, but before I can ask her anything the elevator door opens and we both rush out. We rush into OR 2, scrubbing in.

"Dr. Grey I am gonna need you to help fix the gash on this man's torso, and Piper I need assistance over here." Derek says.

I nod my head, rushing to his side. He is currently removing part of the skull.

"His brain is swelling, so we have to take a piece of his skull out to let it swell, but we will put it back on once the swelling goes down." he explains to me.

"How are we gonna keep his head wrapped then?" I ask.

"Well we are gonna just have to wrap it extremely tight, but carefully, and make sure that he has 24 hour care." he says.

"I got it." I say.

"Okay, let's save this mans life." he says.

******

I let out a yawn and sit down on one of the benches in the lounge.

"I am so tired, it's not even funny." Ellis says, walking in.

"I have to be on patient watch for the next - how many hours - till we can put his skull back into place." I say.

"That sucks, have fun!" she says, changing.

"Thanks." I say sarcastically, throwing in an eye roll.

"Hey, I saw you talking to Daniel today, you guys good?" I ask.

"Yeah, why wouldn't we be?" she asks me, raising her eyebrows.

"I was just wondering." I say, putting my hands up in defeat.

"Well yeah, we are good. He just wanted to know if we could go out somewhere after shift." she explains.

"Ohhh, well have fun." I say.

"I will, you have fun with your patient watch." she says, giving me a devilish smirk then walking out of the lounge.

I laugh at her, and give her another eye roll. Before I get up I let out one last yawn, then go straight up to the neuro floor. Once I get to the man's room I see that nobody is there so I pull up a chair. I check over his vitals, seeing that they are all in a good place. I check the back of his head, very carefully may I add, then sit down. I sit there for a good ten minutes before I hear the door slide open.

"I heard that you would be up here." Noah says.

"Oh, who told you that?" I ask him.

"Someone." he says.

"I think I could have a good guess." I say, making him chuckle.

"Wouldn't surprise me either. You got your hands on a pretty good surgery." he says to me.

"I know, I think that neuro is a good place for me." I say.

"Yeah, it's a pretty neat specialty . But you gotta have a steady hand." he points out.

"I think I am good in that department." I say back to him.

"I was thinking either trauma or PEDS. I know, they are wayyy different than one another I don't know yet." he says.

"I think your right about them being WAY different, but you do whatever you are the best at, or what you will enjoy doing the most." I tell him.

"I think I will take your advice very seriously." he says, a smirk on his face.

We sit in a comfy silence for a couple minutes before I look back up at him.

"Do you think his family knows about this, or even if he has family?" I ask.

"I think everyone has a family, I don't know if his knows, but I know that he has one." he explains.

"I get that, but I couldn't imagine laying on a hospital bed and my family not knowing about it." I say.

"You're never gonna have to worry about that, because I am always gonna keep tabs on you." he says, grabbing my hand.

"It goes both ways." I say, resulting in both of us smiling.

"I love you." he says to me.

"I love you too." I respond, my smile widening.

We sit for a couple more minutes before he gets up. "I would love to stay and chat, but I still gotta go check on my patients."

"Okay, see you later." I say to him.

Before he leaves he leans down and gives me a kiss, then leaving. I sit there again in the silence, but it isn't bothering me. It takes about thirty minutes before anything starts happening, and what happens is bad. All of a sudden his stats bottom out, and I call for a code blue.

"What the hell happened?" Derek asks once he gets in here about five minutes later.

"The hell if I know! He was fine one minute then the next he just coded!" I say, grabbing the paddles.

"I will watch the head, you try and get him back." he says to me.

I nod my head, yelling for them to charge.

"Clear!" I yell, shocking him.

A little spike happens, but nothing else.

"Damn it, charge to 200!" I yell.

They do what I say, and I yell charge. His heartbeat comes back, and I let out a shaky breath.

"Okay, we need to get him back to the OR, and fast." Derek says, checking his pupils.

"You heard the man!" I say, starting to roll the gurney out of the room.

Everyone follows, Derek rushing on the other side of the gurney, helping push. We get to the OR in three minutes, and Derek and I quickly scrub in.

"You ready Piper?" he asks me.

"Is that even I question?" I ask.

He laughs and we go into the OR, with a mission of saving this man.
