1 week later
Katherine's POV

'Remind me why we're getting up this early, darling husband?' I questioned as I poured myself more coffee.

'Because I'm taking you out. Will, Lily, Eve, Zac and KT are going out, so we've got the day to ourselves.' He told me with a smile.

I smiled back. I loved it when Nick was being all romantic like this. 'Where are we going?'

'Nuh uh. It's a surprise.' He chuckled.

'Fine.' I sighed. 'What should I wear?'

'Whatever you want love. Casual, but not too casual.'

'Oh, that helps!' I said sarcastically. He only laughed.

'I'm going to get dressed.' I said as Will and Lily walked in.

I headed upstairs and took a quick shower. Then I opened the wardrobe and decided what to wear.

I took Nick's advice and picked out some red skinny jeans, a white sleeveless button up top and some red low heels.
As I laid them on the bed, Nick came in.
'You've got mail.' He announced, tossing two envelopes on the bed.

'Thanks.' I said and he left the room. I sat on the bed and opened the first envelope.
I scanned through my letter. Oh, it was the bill for my new tablet.
I put that aside and picked up the next one. It was handwritten, but I didn't recognise the writing.

As I opened it and read the words, dread filled me:

Go tAKe A lonG WAlK oFf a SHorT ClIFf BiTCH

I remembered the letter I received last week. But that wasn't as bad as this. This sounded like a death threat.
I suddenly remembered all the times Mary had tried to kill me.

But it couldn't be Mary. She was dead.

Wasn't she?

She'd cheated death before. So what if she had again?

No, of course not. I told myself. She was dead. That was that.

I ripped it up and threw it away before getting dressed. I decided to put it out of my mind. It was probably just someone playing a trick on me.
I couldn't tell Nick either. He had enough to deal with without having to worry about me as well.

When I was dressed, I straightened my hair and walked downstairs to where Nick was waiting.
'Ready?' He enquired, tossing his keys up and catching them.

'Yep.' I nodded.

'Are you okay?' He studied my face.

'Yeah, I'm fine.' I gave him a superficial smile. 'Why?'

'I don't know, you just seem a bit tense.' He said.

'I'm okay, seriously.' I kissed him. 'Are we going or what? Wherever we're going.'

He laughed. 'Okay, okay.'

We went outside to his car and got in.

*****************************

When we got out of town, I grew curious. Where on earth were we going?

Eventually, Nick drove through an estate that was all too familiar.

'You didn't..' I stared at him.

He laughed at my reaction. 'Yes I did.'

We finally stopped in front of my parents house.

'They asked me if we'd come for dinner.' He explained. 'I thought I'd keep it a surprise.'

'It's a lovely surprise. Thank you.' I kissed him.

'You're welcome my love.' He said.

As we got out the car, mum and dad came out to meet us.

'Katherine! Nick!' Mum hugged me and then hugged Nick. 'It's so nice to see you both.'

'And you mum.' I grinned.

I hugged dad too and then Nick shook his hand.
'Good to see you both. Your sister's waiting inside.' Dad told me.

'Em's here?' I questioned.

As if on cue, Emily came hurtling out the house, nearly flattening me in a hug. 'Kath! How are you?'

'I'm good thanks sis, you?' I laughed.

'Yeah, I'm awesome thanks.' She grinned. 'I thought since the wedding I'd see a perceptible difference, but here you are, skinny bitch as always.'

'Thanks a lot Emily.' I blushed as Nick laughed.

We all went inside and dad made coffee as we all sat in the living room.

'How's Will?' Mum asked Nick.

'Yeah, he's alright thanks. He's really got used to Katherine being around.' Nick assured her.

'Well that's good.' Mum nodded.

My phone suddenly vibrated and I checked the message I'd just received:

Nobody likes you slut.

My heart rate increased. What the fuck?
I looked at the number but I didn't recognise it.

'Erm, I'm just going to the bathroom.' I told Nick and left the room.

I stopped when I got onto the upstairs landing and tried to call the number.
Damn. It was a private number.

'Katherine?'

I turned. Nick was walking upstairs. 'What's wrong?'

I pocketed my phone and shrugged. 'I don't know what you mean.'

He looked concerned. 'Kath, I know you. Something's wrong. So please tell me.'

I couldn't tell him.

I sighed. 'When you were in Australia with your aunt... Zac kissed me. But I pushed him away.'

'I'm sorry...?' He stared at me.

'I'm sorry I didn't tell you before.' I said. 'I didn't want to upset you.'

'I'm not upset with you.' He put his arms around me. 'But I'm gonna fucking kill Zac. The fucking bastard. How dare he.'

'Don't Nick.. seriously. I've spoken to him and he apologized. He also promised to never let it happen again.' I told him. 'Seriously. I hated keeping it from you.'

'Why did you?' He asked curiously.

'I felt there was no need since I sorted it. And I didn't want to stress you out. You had enough to deal with. The day you came back. That was the same day I sorted it out with him. I was shopping when I saw him.' I explained. 'Please... Don't be angry.'

He kissed me softly. 'Don't worry. I'm not angry. I'm just glad you told me. And I promise not to be angry with Zac. To his face anyway.'

I smiled, ignoring the feeling of guilt inside me.
