Fine, I'll marry you

Katherine's POV

The whole hour with my dad, Nick and Nick's dad was awkward.
I couldn't believe this. My dad wanted me to marry Nick.
My boss.
My friend.

When our dad's were done talking, I decided to go. I couldn't stand sitting here anymore with the awkward atmosphere.

I stood up. 'I'm off.'

Dad frowned. 'Do you need the keys to my car? You're forgetting that I drove you here.'

'I'll give her a lift.' Nick offered.

I rolled my eyes.
Great. This shouldn't be anymore awkward than it already was.

So me and Nick said our goodbyes and walked out to his car.

The whole car ride was silent. I couldn't think of a single thing to say. And it was still really awkward.
When we stopped outside my apartment, Nick turned to me. 'We need to talk.'

'What's there to talk about?' I asked nonchalantly.

'Our dad's wanting us to marry each other.'

'Oh, that.' I said flatly.

He frowned. 'Katherine, we can't avoid the subject. And I know how much this business deal means to my dad. Your dad won't agree unless I marry you.'

'Wait, wait.' I stared at him. 'So, you're willing to marry me, your employee and... friend, so that your dad gets a business deal? Do you know how big a deal that is?'

'Yes, I'm perfectly aware, that this isn't a normal situation Katherine.' He said. 'But nothing normal has ever happened in our lives has it? And I'm not sure how Will would react. Or how it will interfere in our work. But if you don't want to, I don't mind, I'll see if I can persuade your dad to do that business deal anyway. I'm not forcing you to do anything you don't want to.' 

I sighed. 'I'll marry you, okay?' 

He stared at me. 'Are you serious? You're willing to do that?'

'Yeah, why not?' I shrugged. 'We see each other 24/7 anyway, we might as well marry each other.'

He gave me a funny look. 'Did you just make a joke? Did Katherine Calvin make a joke?'

'Shut up.' I nudged him in the arm. 'I'd better call my dad then.'

'Yeah, I think I'd better break the news to Will.' He nodded.

'Good luck.' I half smiled and opened the car. 'Bye.'

'See you at work tomorrow.' He said. 'If you don't come into work, I'll launch a full scale investigation.'

'Yeah, I'd like to see you try.' I said dryly.
