1 week later
Nick's POVI walked into the lab, and I noticed that Katherine was currently glaring at Phillipa and Lewis (another employee).
'Katherine.' I got her attention.
'Hey Nick.' She smiled when she saw me.
I took her hands and pulled her from her chair. 'Come on. We're going to lunch.'
'Okay.' She nodded.
'By the way, why were you glaring at Phillipa and Lewis?' I asked curiously.
'She's talking about us again.' Katherine muttered angrily. 'She needs to get a life and keep her opinions to herself.'
'Ignore them..' I said and kissed her. She kissed me back, but then as usual she pulled away after a few seconds when we were in the workplace.
'I love you.' I said quietly. She didn't say it back, as I knew she wouldn't. Every time I told her I loved her, she never said it back.
I could understand why though. She wasn't ready. She'd had her heart broken too many times, and she wanted to make sure I was there for her and would never hurt her.I saw the guilt in her face though every time I told her I loved her. She didn't need to feel guilty. I understood completely.
But today, there was something else in her mood that I couldn't place.
There was something wrong. And I hated it when she shut me out.We walked to the small cafe across the road and when we got there, we both ordered a coffee.
'Go on, then, what's wrong?' I asked her finally.
She scowled adorably. 'What? Nothing.'
'Aw come on Kath. I know something's up. I know you.' I held her hand across the table.
She sighed. 'The picture of us, in the gossip section of that newspaper-'
'That, again?' I shook my head. 'I've already told you, Kath, ignore it.'
'Will you let me finish please?' She frowned.
I waited.
'I know who sold that picture to the press.'
'What?' That was unexpected. 'How?'
'I asked Hollins to do a bit of investigating, that's all.' She shrugged.
'Okay... So, who was it?' I asked.
'Rebecca.' She told me.
I frowned. 'I thought I told her to leave us alone!'
'She obviously didn't listen.' Katherine shrugged.
'Right, give me a minute.' I took my phone out my pocket and stood up.
'What are you doing?'
'I'm just gonna sort this out.' I said, and walked through the double doors to the hallway where the toilets were on either side.
When I was sure nobody was around, I dialled Rebecca's number.
She answered almost instantaneously. 'Nick? Is that you?'
'Yeah, I-'
'Oh Nick, I'm so glad you called!' She said, before I could finish my sentence. 'I was wondering if you wanted to go out sometime, I don't know, seeing a movie, or a restaurant?'
Once I was sure she wouldn't interrupt again, I carried on. 'No, I don't, Rebecca. But there is one thing I'd like.'
'Anything for you Nick.' She said.
'I'd like you to leave me and Katherine alone.' I told her.
There was silence. Then:
'What are you talking about Nick? Look, I'm sorry about the whole wedding fiasco, but you can forgive me, right? You've always forgiven me. And I'm sure the whole marriage thing is sorted and your dad has that business deal now, right? So you can now divorce Katherine, and things will return to normal.'
I cleared my throat. 'Rebecca, I'm not divorcing Katherine. I love her.'
'She's taking you away from me.' Rebecca replied.
'Don't be stupid Rebecca.' I frowned. 'We know what you did.'
'I have no idea what you're talking about Nick.'
'Yes, you do.' I said impatiently. 'You sold a picture of me and Katherine kissing to the press!'
'Nick, I swear, I didn't!' She said. 'Why would I do that to you?'
'Look, just leave me and Katherine alone.' I demanded. 'You know how Katherine can get if you push her too far. You'll piss her off, and then you'll regret it when she lashes out. Leave us alone, or I won't hesitate to tell the police you're harassing us!'
'But, Nick, please! I need you!' She pleaded. She sounded like she was crying. 'I can't bear it, you not talking to me! I need you! You're the only one who understands me.'
I noticed that Katherine had come into the hallway and was listening.
How long had she been there? I wondered idly.
'Look, I'm sorry Rebecca. I really am. But you need to move on. I love Katherine, and you're not making things easy for her.' I responded. 'Leave us alone, or else.'
Then I hung up on her.I turned to Katherine, who was leaning against the wall. She looked concerned. 'You okay?'
'Yeah, I'm fine.' I smiled. 'Don't worry, I have a feeling she won't be bothering us again, if she's got any sense.'
'Rebecca? Got any sense? I don't think so.' She muttered.
I chuckled quietly.

Rebecca's POVI stared at my phone.
Did Nick just-
Did he just... Hang up on me?
I wiped away my fake tears and poured another glass of wine.
That bitch had completely poisoned him against me.
My plan hadn't worked.
Katherine had obviously got her stupid goon squad to find out about the picture, and then she couldn't wait to tell Nick it was his "pathetic ex wife" who was ruining their marriage.
I bet Nick was only with that whore because he felt sorry for her. She had no friends, no social life and he'd taken her job from her.
So he'd taken pity on her and married her.Well watch.
He'd eventually get tired of her when she constantly annoyed him and he'd satiated his lust for her. Then he'd come back to me, like he always did.Because it was also lust, wasn't it?
Me and Nick were divorced, and Katherine was always around him, showing off her cheap looks, and so he married her just to have sex with her.Well, like I said; he'd get rid of her once he was bored and then he'd come back to me.
I glared at the blank wall opposite me. 'Katherine, you're so going to regret the moment you set eyes on my Nick.'
