"Lincoln said the scouts would be the first to arrive," Clarke called down from where she stood, gazing over the wall.
"Well, if it's just scouts, we can fight our way out. That's what Lincoln would do." Octavia said.
Bellamy turned around. "We're done doing what that Grounder would do. We tried it and now Drew is dead. You wanna be next?"
"That Grounder saved our lives," Finn defended. "I agree with Octavia. For all we know there's only one scout out there."
"One scout with insanely good aim," Thea added.
Octavia stepped forward. "Clarke, we can still do this."
Clarke stared down at the group in front of her. They waited for her to speak, making the decision final.
"Looking to you, princess." Bellamy told her, wrapping and arm around Thea's shoulder to help support her. "What's it gonna be? Run and get picked off out in the open, or stand and fight back?"
Clarke turned to look back over the wall. Finally, she sighed, jumping down from her post and walking past the others.
"Clarke," Finn stopped her, "If we're still here when Tristan gets here–"
"Lincoln said 'scouts.' More than one. He said, 'get home before the scouts arrive.' Finn, they're already here." She turned to Bellamy. "Looks like you've got your fight."
Bellamy turned to the crowd of teenagers, letting Octavia take Thea as he walked forward. "Okay, then. This is what we've been preparing for. Kill them before they kill us. Gunners, to your posts! Use the tunnels to get in and out. From now on the gate stays closed."
People ran to their posts, grabbing guns as they went. Finn put an arm around Thea and helped her to the dropship as Octavia ran off.
Thea sat down on a crate as Finn took off to help the others. She wasn't happy about having to sit this one out but she knew that with her injury, she'd only slow them down so she stayed put.
She watched as it began to grow dark outside and there was still no sign of an attack from the Grounders. Everyone was on edge. Suddenly, she heard the sound of people running and hushed voices. Then gunshots. There was a pause and then more shots rang out.
Thea grew impatient as no word came from the others as to what was happening. Deciding she had to at least do something to help, she pulled herself to her feet and limped to where Raven was.
The other girl was propped against a crate, unable to move her legs as she tried to instruct Clarke on which wire to cut. Thea sat down beside her.
"Anything I can do to help? Siting around doing nothing is driving me crazy."
Raven laughed humorlessly, "Tell me about it. Here," she handed her a few pieces of whatever she was working on. "Put this together. The pieces just fit right together. Shouldn't be too hard."
"Thanks," Thea said as she took it, following Raven's instructions.
"Hey, I found it. Orange wire." Clarke called our from below them.
"About time!" Raven called back. "Now follow that wire to the override panel."
It was quiet for a minute before Clarke spoke again.
