Thea Johnson sat quietly in her room, an open book in her lap. Her eyes weren't focused on the book, however. Instead, her gaze lingered on the single window across the room.

The sound of boots walking down the hallway broke the silence. Tensing, Thea closed her book, standing up to face the door.

And as she watched expectantly, the door to her cell swung open to reveal two guards standing outside.

"Prisoner one fifty seven come with us," one of the guards ordered.

"Why? What's going on?" Thea questioned, confused as to why they were here, unannounced in the middle of the day.

"No questions. Come with us," the guard demanded sternly.

Thea sighed and stood up, she couldn't be bothered to try and get an answer from them, she knew it was useless. She walked with a guard on either side of her, one holding loosely on to her upper arm as he steered her in the direction of their unknown destination.

It wasn't until Thea looked around and noticed that all of the other prisoners in her section were being escorted out of their cells as well, that she panicked.

"What's going on?" she demanded.

When neither guard answered her, she abruptly stopped and refused to move any further.

"I want to know what's happening," she said, looking up so she could stare  into the face of the guard that was holding her.
"What is this? Where are we going?"

"Just walk," the other guard replied, also grabbing her by the arm and pulling her forward.

"No! I want to know what's happening!" she panicked as the guards refused to give her a straight answer.

Pulling both her arms out of the guards' grip, she took a few steps backwards, shaking her head. The guards shared a look and slowly advanced towards her.

"Just come with us, you'll be fine, I promise," one of them spoke while the other nodded in agreement.

But Thea knew better than to trust them. She was a criminal, a delinquent. Her safety meant little to these people who only viewed her as another underage troublemaker that was simply a liability until her eighteenth birthday when she could be disposed of.

"Are you going to float us?" she asked, her eyes wide.

She was expecting to have at least another year before she was floated, she was only seventeen, after all.

"You're going to float us all to make more room on the Ark, aren't you?"

One of the men started to speak but Thea cut him off before he could get a word out.

"You can't just murder us because we've committed a crime. Most of us still have our trial to go to before they decide if we float or not!"

"That's not..." the guard began but Thea had already made up her mind. She turned on her heel and ran in the opposite direction, pushing other underage criminals and guards out of the way as she went. She wasn't sure what her plan was, but that didn't stop her from running as fast as her legs could carry her, which incidentally, was pretty damn fast.

She could hear the guards shouting as they ran after her but she didn't slow down. She sprinted through the crowded halls, dodging people who gave her curious looks as she shoved past them.

Skidding around a corner, she would have kept going if she hadn't run full force right into someone.

Looking up, she realized that she had smacked into Commander Shumway. She groaned, it was just her luck that she would run into Shumway, the worst of them all. She had never particularly liked the man and now she had another reason to add to the list of reasons she disliked him.

He smirked down at her, his grip on her arms tightening as she scowled at him.

"Ms. Johnson, what a surprise," he chuckled, not sounding surprised at all.

She glared at him and scanned her surroundings, looking for another escape route. As she tilted her head to check behind Commander Shumway, she noticed a young man, not much older than herself, standing several feet behind them with his hands behind his back and a nervous look, as though he was anticipating something that he didn't particularly like the thought of. She disregarded him, knowing that if it came down to it she could take him out and commence her plan of escape.

Suddenly, Shumway turned her around so she was facing the direction that she had been running from, and waited expectantly for the two guards to catch their breath.

"I believe this is what you're looking for," he said, almost making it sound like a question as he raised an amused eyebrow.

"Commander, sir, very sorry, she just ran. We couldn't catch her." the guard panted, out of breath from chasing after the girl.

"Yes, she's a fast one, we have discovered that before. I would think they would send someone slightly more...qualified than you two, knowing her status as a runner," the commander smirked at the two men who looked ashamed by their lack of physical fitness.

The commander pushed Thea forward and the guards reached out to grab her. However, as they were about to grip on to her arms, she jerked away from them and started to make another run for it.

But right as she was about to shove her way past the three men, she felt a sharp pain in her neck. She turned to see Shumway with a syringe in his hand, smirking down at her as she felt her eyes grow heavy.

"Son of a bitch..." she muttered sleepily.

"Sleep tight little one," the commander smirked as she was supported by one of the guards to keep her from falling over. She tried to growl at the man standing in front of her but she was already falling into unconsciousness.

She felt herself being picked up and the last thing she heard was the commander whispering to someone she couldn't see, "—go now or your sister goes on that dropship alone."

Hey guys! So this is my first story! If you notice any spelling or grammar errors, feel free to let me know, just be nice about it haha I've read over this chapter so many times but it's entirely possible that I missed something so let me know if I did.
One more thing, I'm aware that Willa Holland plays a character on the CW show Arrow, named Thea. I am also aware that my character is played by Willa Holland and is named Thea. I chose the name before I chose Willa to play her. I just really love Willa and I really love the name Thea and she seemed to fit the role so I just went with it. Don't sue me hahaha
Thanks for reading! Love you all!
