Katelyn's Discovery

Chapter 10

Katelyn's Pov:

I trudged home with my parents on either side of my father holding my wrist with his gloves. I wondered how many of those metal shards father had because he had replaced the one he left in Savannah's arm and neck with fresh ones.

This was all my fault. Savannah had looked so scared without her powers. I looked down at the ground as we walked into the house. My parents could be so cruel sometimes.

           It took about five minutes for my parents to push me upstairs and my mother to start whipping me. I curled up on the floor as she hit my back again and again with the painful whip when suddenly it stopped she kicked me unto my side and walked away. If it hadn't of been for Savannah I know I would have died of blood loss; I now owed her my life a hundred times over.

           I knew Bud wouldn't be safe coming to my aid again, I hadn't told mother or father what had happened but they were now positioned outside watching the woods. Mother was typing something on her work phone, a relic which was past its prime, likely because of my super hearing. I sighed feeling my back.

           After mom was done typing her message I watched as she went inside I heard her go into her room and grab the medical kit. She walked into my room and picked up a needle carefully threading it before walking over to me.

           The needle pierced my skin and I screamed it was made of the same excruciating Metal. She sewed my back together and left me in tears as she exited the room with a big smile crawling up her face.

Tears fell in sloppy puddles off my face into the wooden floor. I spotted my dictionary set so that the two halves had open pages. The open pages had pen markings circling certain words.

             On one page up was circled and on the other half of the dictionary, time was circled.

"Up, time?" I read aloud trying to make sense of this.

"Time, up?" I repeated before a terrible sense of dread filled me. My parents aren't stationed outside to keep the dog out. They're out there to keep me in.
