Savannahs Pov:
I lay on my back in the grass with my useless eyes closed. The day had been moving far slower than the clouds that lazily glided above my head. Grass waved lightly as the wind blew around my personal bubble of purified air.
My attention suddenly flicked to movement far off down the driveway; I opened my human eyes and stood up stretching as the dead grass fell off my shirt.
Patiently I went to the front porch watching as a man and woman walked up the driveway. Their appearance consisted of no more than grey right down to their skin and eyes. That little voice in the back of my head told me that they were the ones Katelyn called parents, although nothing seemed to add up.
Shaking off the doubt in my mind I recalled how I had gone out looking for Katelyn this morning; I couldn't escape the feeling in the pit of my stomach that something was wrong.
I called my dog, Bud, to my side and looked into his golden eyes. From my shirt, I pulled a piece of bark from Katelyn's fort. Bud gently took a large whiff of it before putting his nose to the ground. The scent would lead him to the tree and then he would follow Katelyn's trail to wherever she was.
I had trained Bud myself by transforming into a dog and teaching him all the basics. I could not speak dog so I went solely off of hand signals and a few verbal commands.
Katelyn's parents were now far enough up the driveway that they could see me. The couple looked disgusted to see me standing on the porch waiting and grumbled together as they walked in my direction. I realized then that I had forgotten to disguise my powers and the glowing was definitely not normal...
"We need to speak to your parents?" They asked without a hint of manners; I inwardly groaned as I turned and walked to the door.
"Mom! We have company!" I yelled and she responded angrily as she yelled back at me with a crying infant in her arms, how fitting that the unwelcoming neighbours should receive my mother in the middle of one of her 'moments'. Mom stormed out the door and put on her best smile as her gaze fell upon our guests.
"Savannah will you go make some tea please honey?" I paused and then nodded, mom always told me to make tea when she saw someone potentially dangerous. I took my sister in with me setting her gently on her blanket in the living room.
I told the boys not to disturb mom and the neighbours telepathically and they understood what my order could potentially mean.
They each took a couple extra knives and baby Lily out to the backyard where we could quickly fight or flee. I made the tea and poured it into some of moms fine china from her great, great, great, great grandmother while nervously placing the sugar and cream on the tray telepathically.
I listened to mom explain to these two why she would not talk about my powers or those of any of her kids. This reminded me of how Katelyn had told me how her parents often beat her up due to her powers.
I lifted the tray awkwardly with my arms because of how used to my telekinesis I had become and I walked to the front porch where the three adults were now busily talking about me. I used my power of sight to see through moms eyes but it was tinted with fury and anger and her sight was so limited that I quickly returned to the broad range surrounding my face.
I opened the front door and carefully hoisted the tray onto the little glass coffee table we kept outside with the foldable lawn chairs. I stepped back and behind moms chair as the grey-eyed couple continued their rant.
"Hey girl what powers do you have?"
The woman asked as she grabbed the black tea and poured half of it out. I looked at mother fuming over her wasted tea as the woman poured her glass overfilling with milk and sugar and then messily stirring it with the stirring spoon. Mom angrily looked up and shook her head as I opened my mouth to speak."Actually I was wondering if any of you had seen Bud..." Mom shook her head once more knowing just as well as me that Bud would never disappear. I had hoped he would be back by now.
"Buddy! What a cute name that every little kid has named their puppy since the 1900's!" The man said while putting the teacup to his lips.
"It's short for Budgie actually, as in the bird Budgie." I snapped back. Mom's gasp filled the air as he suddenly threw the tea towards the yard.
My telekinesis reached out across the yard I caught some of the tea but the glass shattered and mom jumped up furiously. With my telekinesis, I bonded the shards back together and placed it back on the table.
"You control your powers well."
He reached out for the cup and the glass turned Grey along a million cracks before my mom pulled it away. For the first time since their arrival, I noticed the gardening gloves he was wearing bore metal pads at the tips and along the palm. My eyes narrowed warily, but my attention was drawn to rustling in the woods.
I watched the woods while keeping my blind eyes on the couple, I was sure that my eyes were twinkling in rainbow colours like anybody else I had met with powers, which was limited to my brothers, Katelyn, and myself.
The sound grew gradually louder until finally, Budgie burst through the foliage followed by Katelyn. A satisfied smile crossed my face and the woman looked confused.
"I see the dog bye mom." For the first time, I was happy I was the only one with super sight because to them the two would be a single blur maybe just another piece of foliage.
I used super speed and ran off as my mom tilted her gaze and Katelyn's terrible parents squinted towards the woods. Those cruel people couldn't be her real parents.
