Do You Care

White Moonstone and Sunstone stood and watched as Obsidian and Aquamarine fused. Both of them knew that this meant, an always miserable fusion would come of this. Lightning Ridge Black Opal was not the most fun to be around. Constantly either crying or accusing the other two gems of how they didn't care about them. Sunstone was usually able to handle this as Lightning Ridge clung to White Moonstone and he didn't particularly care if he said something to hurt Lightning Ridge. White Moonstone, however, was constantly having to try and comfort Lightning Ridge or at the very least stop him from constantly reminding Moonie how he wanted to die.

Lightning Ridge turned to look at Sunstone and Moonstone and started walking towards them. Sunstone turned around and went straight for the door to the shack as he wasn't in the mood to entertain a "crybaby" like Lightning Ridge. White Moonstone was always the one having to deal with him. Lightning Ridge soon stood in front of Moonie with a frown.

"Sunstone hates me doesn't he," Lightning Ridge asked.

"No, it's just that he's feeling a bit tired right now," White Moonstone said trying to not set Lightning Ridge off.

"Moonie do you know what it feels like to know everyone hates you," He asked.

"We don't hate you Lightning, I certainly don't. Sometimes we just need to rest that's all" White Moonstone said

"You don't want to be seen with a freak like me" Lightning Ridge turned around.

"Hey c'mon that's not true I just want to see you smile," Moonie said.

"It hurts to smile Moonie" Lightning Ridge dramatically turned to Moonie with tears in his eyes. White Moonstones eye started to twitch.

"Maybe some food will make you feel better huh. We can go into town and..."

"I don't want to taste anything except for the sweet release of death" Lightning Ridge finished.

This went on for weeks, this back and forth of Lightning Ridge being miserable and White Moonstone trying to tell him he cares about him. Lightning Ridge seemed to also shadow almost all of Moonie's movements. Following him when he went to town sometimes, being right behind him when White Moonstone went to collect shells along the shore. Everywhere Moonstone went Lightning Ridge followed. Always ready to quip about some depressing thought that passed his brain. It starting making White Moonstone quite gloomy. He hated being negative and sad all the time, it wasn't his personality. Finally being fed up with it he came up with an idea. It was the middle of the day and Moonie had gone to the shore to relax from helping Sunstone around the house. Lightning Ridge sat right next to him.

"Not even in the ocean do I feel like I'm understood," Lightning Ridge said. "No one understands me not even the fish"

"Why don't you help me to understand Lightning. Let me fuse with you" White Moonstone said softly taking one of Lightning Ridge's hands.

'You wouldn't want to be with a monster like me" He said turning his head away.

"You're no monster Lightning, you're my friend" White Moonstone was trying is very hardest to coax him into a fusion.

"You just hate me!" Lightning Ridge yelled as tears starting gushing out of his eyes. His tears starting making an obvious puddle around him and the sand wet.

"Hey no that's not what I meant. I just want to be close to you Lightning" White Moonstone tried to dig himself out of the hole he was now in.

"No you don't, you just want me gone" Lightning Ridge continued to sob.

White Moonstone was finally pushed over the edge with Lightning Ridge. He hated seeing him so upset and made him almost as miserable as Lightning. He finally just started crying, it was too much for Moonie to deal with so the best solution was to cry. Lightning Ridge noticed that his friend was crying and almost immediately reduced himself to a sniffling mess.

"I'm so...sorry...Th-that I ma-made you so...upset. I'm a m-m-monster" Lightning Ridge sniffled at Moonie. Moonie just curled up and kept crying.

"Ple-please don't cry Moonie," He said pulling Moonie into his lap and wrapped his arms around him. Moonie now though seemed to be the one who couldn't stop being upset and just kept crying.

"No, you're supposed to be the happy one," Lightning Ridge said trying to comfort his friend. Moonie started to calm down a bit but still wasn't all that happy.

"See look, I'm smiling," Lightning Ridge said making a big smile showing off the little fangs he had. Moonie looked up and seemed to stop crying.

"Are you happy now?" Lightning Ridge asked. Moonie just shook his head no.

"What will make you happy Moonie please tell me," Lightning Ridge pleaded.

"Stop being so sad it makes me so upset" White Moonstone choked out.

"I'm sorry" Lightning Ridge hung his head.

"Please just smile a bit more, it hurts so much when you're like that" Moonie said hugging the larger fusion.

"I will," Lightning Ridge said. They sat together then with Moonie in his arms and the two didn't move. "Would us fusing make you feel a bit better?" Lightning Ridge asked.

"Only if you want to," Moonie said wiping the remaining tears away.

"I do," he said. Moonie gave him a small smile and got up off his lap. Lightning ridge stood up and a genuine smile appeared on his face. Moonie smiled too and let out a soft laugh.

The two began to dance. Lightning Ridge always leaning towards looking like he was at some rave and Moonie doing his usual wild movements. Moonie clapped on the beat but his actual "dancing" seemed to be off but he was having fun. The two progressively danced closer to each other until Lightning Ridge offered Moonie a hand. White Moonstone grabbed the held out hand and in a bright flash, a huge hulking fusion with six eyes was left in their place.

"It's never fun being that sad sack," Tanzanite said adjusting his bowtie and readjusting his top hat. "It's much better being me"
