Knight

It had been weeks and Aventurine was still fused and bossing Obsidian around. Always being told to fetch this and make that for Aventurine. At times it was bearable as the fusion could be quite cute and endearing but at others it was complete hell for Obsidian. Today was the monthly check for corrupted gems and Obsidian was hoping Aventurine wouldn't notice him leaving on the warp pad. With his luck though, Aventurine who had been lying in the sand, noticed him walking to the warp.

"Obby where are you going. You still haven't played my favorite game with me today" Aventurine called and rolled onto his stomach.

"I have to do our check," He said coldly. Aventurine's eyes filled with excitement.

"I'll come with you and you can be the strong knight that protects me," Aventurine said getting and skipping over to him. Obsidian knew that meant him doing all the work while Aventurine didn't help.

"I think it'll be better if I do this one alone," he said.

"Oh pretty, pretty please Obby. It's so boring when you're not here" Aventurine begged, giving the cutest puppy dog eyes to Obsidian. Obsidian couldn't help but think the big fusion was the most adorable thing right now.

"Oh alright sure Aventurine. I'll be your strong knight" Obsidian caved in.

"Oh yay!" Aventurine said with a smile clapping his hands together, "Just make sure I don't have to do any fighting, it makes me feel all gross if I have to fight"

"Don't worry Aventurine" He said slightly regretting having allowed him to come with.

The two stood on the warp and teleported deep in a forest. The trees seem to block out direct sunlight and overgrown roots peaked out from the ground. Birds chirping and flying past could be heard while the sound of a small stream sending its water to some river far off could be heard. The air was fresh and pine cones laid scattered around the forest floor. Obsidian and Aventurine started heading north into the forest.

"Obby there's so many bugs here. Why won't you shoo them off of me?" Aventurine whined.

"I'm pretty sure you're capable enough to handle some bugs," Obsidian said getting annoyed.

"You're my knight you're supposed to protect me" Aventurine emphasized.

"I protect you from things that could hurt you. Bugs are not on that list." Obsidian said matter of factly. Aventurine crossed his arms and sat on the ground.

"I'm not moving till you deal with the bugs," Aventurine said

"Aventurine please we need to keep moving," Obsidian asked.

"Nope, not until these nasty bugs are gone" Aventurine turned his nose up. Obsidian sighed out of frustration and walked over and shooed off any bugs in the general vicinity of Aventurine. Once done Aventurine stood up again ready to walk.

The two kept pushing forwards and passing more creeks and seeing some animals cross their path. Something though wasn't right and Obsidian could feel it. The forest seemed to quiet down and all he could hear was some far off stream and Aventurine and his footsteps. Soon the ground starting becoming a bit steeper as they began to walk up a hill. To Obsidian's surprise, a cave seemed to be carved into the side of the hill. He drew his axe and Aventurine seemed to pick up on the tenseness of the situation. Even though he picked up on the mood he didn't particularly care.

"Obby will you make this fight fast, my feet are getting tired and I don't want to stand watching you the whole time" Aventurine complained.

"Be quiet!" He hushed.

"Knights are supposed to be nice to the princesses they protect" Aventurine huffed.

"Look I'll be nice and sweet to you after I deal with this" Obsidian said.

"No you won't you'll just get mad at me" Aventurine sat down again and was being pissy. In all honesty, though Obsidian didn't have the time.

He went closer to the cave leaving Aventurine to sit by himself. As he got closer though his eyes widened. In the cave, he could see three corrupted quartz gems. He cursed under his breath knowing he wouldn't be able to handle all three. One was easy but three would overwhelm him. He turned around to see Aventurine just sitting watching him and pouting. It wouldn't be any use to try and ask him for help even though Aventurine was much stronger than him. He turned back and saw that one of the corrupted gems saw him. At first, it seemed to not care but gradually became more hostile and charged at him. He dodged to the side and sliced at one of its legs. The quartz let out a loud cry to alert the others. Once catching on to what was happening the other two did the same. A bright yellow one was able to slam against Obsidian sending him toppling behind himself. He was able to roll back onto his feet though and starting running towards it. He slid under the gem and sliced its belly with his axe. To much of his surprise, the quartz just seemed to get angrier at him and overpowered him by pouncing on him. This though was helpful for Obsidian as he was able, while the corrupted gem was gnashing its teeth at him to ram his axe into its mouth and partly into its head. The gem poofed almost instantly and he was able to get back up.

When he looked over he saw Aventurine with his flail out with one of the quartzes already gone. Aventurine simply swung his flail into the side of the quartz and it poofed just like that.

"Obby that was so easy. Why didn't you poof them faster?" Aventurine whined. "You're supposed to be my knight but instead you were completely worthless"

"Well maybe not being a fusion and dealing with three quartzes isn't the easiest thing to do," Obsidian said through gritted teeth.

"That's just an excuse so you won't help me," Aventurine said.

"That's it!" Obsidian yelled "I'm not your fucking plaything Aventurine. If it's so easy then why don't you fucking go out and do these checks huh! Obviously, I'm so incapable so why don't you go out and do this!"

Aventurine's physical form began to shake. Switching between shaky light and his normal form. Tears seemed to be at the edge of his eyes and Obsidian realized he was a bit too aggressive with him. Finally, Aventurine fell apart and Aquamarine, Sunstone and White Moonstone fell to the soft grass of the forest. Moonie had big tears in his eyes and rushed right to Obsidian.

"I'm so so so so sorry we made you upset" He cried practically clinging onto him, "We promise we won't make you upset again Obby"

"It's fine Moonie. I shouldn't have yelled like that." Obsidian said gently patting White Moonstone's head.

"Sorry about that Obsidian," Aquamarine said scratching the back of his head. Sunstone just rolled his eyes.

"It's fine," he said much calmer. "Just next time Aventurine is around and if you three try to act like that again I'll poof myself"

"We won't we promise" White Moonstone said still hugging him. Obsidian just smiled knowing that Moonie actually gave him good apologies. The four of them though didn't want to waste the day so went looking for the creek and played in the water for the rest of the day.
