"Babe, I think that's him." I point to the lanky looking man, standing by the boat. We walked all the way to the lanky man, and greeted him.
"I'm assuming you are Miss Y/N and Mr. Yugyeom, the two mythologists, correct?" We both nodded at him.
"I'm Kunpimook Bhuwakul, but you can call me Bambam. I'll be your captain today." Bambam flashed a bright smile at the both of us. "Today's destination is Siren Island."
~~~~~~~~Yugyeom and I have been colleagues since freshman year of college. We both took the same major, and applied for the same job as a mythologist. If you couldn't already tell, Yugyeom and I are a thing. We've been together for almost two years now.
Why mythology you ask? I've been into Greek myths ever since I watched Hercules like no lie. Ever since then, I've been studying about it up until college. It wasn't common for mythologists to do outside work, but mysterious shipwrecks and disappearing crew members have caught my eye. It all linked to this island.
My theory is that it could be a siren, a mythological creature that is half human, half bird. Call me crazy, but it's the only other explanation that makes sense.
My boss said it was a waste of time to invest in such a project like this, but I finally persuaded him to do so. I'm so thankful that happened, and I'm also thankful that Yugyeom came along. In a way, it's like our own little vacation. Plus, our anniversary is coming up soon. Yay.
"There she is: Siren Island. Home of the so-called Jeon Jungkook." I ran to the front deck to get a closer look. It looked awfully beautiful. Palm trees and other greens covered most of the island. White pebbles were spread across the beach. No garbage, no pollution; it was clean. On the other hand, sharp rocks stood at each end of the island. The rocks resembled the fangs of a saber-toothed tiger. It was quite frightening. "Jungkook? So that's the Siren's name?" Yugyeom questioned amusingly.
Bambam rushed to the side of the boat, and lowered the anchor. "That's what I just heard. Survivors said that's what he was called, so the locals just went with it. Locals also said that spooky occurrences happen around sunset, and it's almost sunset."
Perfect timing. Now, we just wait.
Yugyeom and I planned to take shifts every two hours with Bambam occasionally watching from his seat on top deck. I was at first watch.
Waiting while the wind was blowing through my hair was relaxing. The sunset was beautiful. Pinks, purples, and oranges painted the sky. I could the see the sun in the distance, floating down like a giant, orange balloon losing it's helium.
Two hours flew by like the seagulls above me. It was finally Yugyeom's turn to watch for the siren. I went downstairs, opened up the books, and looked for anything related to sirens. If we could catch this thing, we'd make history. Who knows what could happen to us. Hell, we could be fucking millionaires if we catch this thing!
I dig my nose deeper into this book, desperate to find any more information. A lightbulb went off in my head, and I made my way to BamBam.
~~~~~~~~"That's how this island became known as Siren Island," Bambam said as he fiddled with his fingers.
"I'm sorry about your brother," I apologized.
"Nah, don't mention it. It wasn't your fault."
We sat there in silence, and let our eyes wander around. I spotted Yugyeom sitting on a chair with his binoculars, scoping the island. I stifle in a laugh. He had on this green bucket hat with little fishhooks, and a red flannel tucked into his beige cargo shorts. Yugyeom, babe, you may be hot, but this outfit has got to go.
