Trigger Warning
The crowd rejoiced when one of the soccer players made a goal which helped their team catch up with their opponents. To everyone else, it was exhilarating; to Jungkook, it was overwhelming. Especially when he sprained his knee — when he thought he sprained his knee.
By the time they went to the hospital, Jungkook's knee was so swollen that he wasn't even sure if he was able to make his way to the doctor. Thankfully, he was given a wheelchair along the way. They made it in the nick of time, and went through the process of healing this sprained knee of his. At first, Jungkook thought his knee would heal in no time, but after finding the test results, his world came crashing down.
By the age of 15, Jungkook was diagnosed with osteosarcoma; it's like a type of bone cancer. His so called 'sprained knee' was an affected area by the tumor. It was tough on Jungkook and especially his dad because of the amount of money his father spent trying to look for a cure. Though his bones were slowly killing him, nothing compared to the way Jungkook's heart was hurting when he saw his dad working so hard.
One day, his father was working, Jungkook was left on a wheelchair in his hospital room, looking out of the window. He took a glance at the people below: nurses, doctors, children, and old people. Some ran, while others strolled along the pavement. Jungkook thought to himself, "What do they have that I don't? The ability to walk— the ability to move without breaking themselves."
Jealousy got the best of Jungkook. He hated what life threw at him at this part of his life.
"Out of all of the people in the world, some powerful being from above thought that I was the perfect candidate to suffer this shit."
That's when Jungkook thought that maybe it was all a nightmare. A sick nightmare that he lived through for far too long. He looked back at closed door across the room.
"Maybe. Just maybe." He muttered under his breath.
With all his might, Jungkook forced himself to stand up from that wretched wheelchair. He shakily held onto the armrests for support, and kept his eyes on the door before letting go of the armrests. Before he could take one step, he plummeted to the floor with a thud, failing miserably to reach the door.
Jungkook slammed his fists down on the floor, frustrated and angry with himself.
The noise startled a patient next door. A girl around his age who was submitted to the hospital due to a severe cold and fever.
Out of curiosity, the girl stood up, dragged her IV pole, and made her way to the room next door.
Suddenly, the girl walks into his room. Jungkook lifted his head to see a pair of petite, bare feet then his eyes shifted upwards. The girl, with a blank face, held onto her IV Pole, staring at Jungkook. He blinked at her, wondering what she wanted. Suddenly, she kneeled in front of Jungkook, and held unto both of his arms, helping him up. With her support, Jungkook was able to get back on his wheelchair.
"I'm sorry, I don't mean to sound rude, but why did you entered my room and helped me?"
"Well, I heard a noise coming from your room and decided to check it out. To answer your other question, it's a common courtesy to help people, and there's nothing wrong with that."
"What if I didn't want any help? What would you do?" Jungkook crossed his arms, and a smirk pulled at his lips. He felt like he was being pitied, hence his snarky attitude.
"I would've just watched you struggle and fail to get back in your wheelchair like you did trying to stand up. Did that answer your question?"
This time, it was the girl's turn to smirk.
Jungkook was flustered as the girl really answered his question. He thought she would be silent, but she didn't. Jungkook thought she was one hell of a girl.
