"Asshole."

Namjoon wondered why there are so many of them in this world.

He picked up the twenty dollar bill that the jackass threw out of his car, and put it in his pocket.

It was another one of those slow nights at the gas station. Namjoon would be lucky if at least five cars showed up at the gas station. He'd make enough to buy a couple burritos.
Namjoon sat down on the chair next to the shelf full of engine necessities. He'd sit there and wonder how in the hell did he end up in this dump.

His father wasn't shit. He drank every night, smoked every day, and Namjoon got tired of it— tired of his demands and complaints about how shitty his dad's life was.

And his mom— well, he doesn't even remember anything about his mother. He doesn't know if she's still living or not, like he cared anyway.

Namjoon had to grow up on his own— he had to live on his own. He'd gotten into fights at school, and eventually dropped out. There were six boys he was friends with, but they all have their own problems to deal with so, Namjoon couldn't really stay in touch with them.

Namjoon would steal whenever he was desparate for food, which got him locked up a couple of times. Some of the police officers that he met kept telling him the same thing: "You're better than this kid. Stop following this path that you're on, and do something great instead."

He tried, but it didn't work out. He's still here at this crappy gas station, working for five bucks an hour every week. Well, that's if his boss doesn't spend his paycheck on weed or booze or whores he'd find on the streets.
And when he does (like almost every time), Namjoon would just sell pot on the side. It was an easy way to make a quick buck. Whenever he had some left over, he'd call up the boys and hot box his "home". More like a container outside of a junkyard.

"10:26. I'll just take a quick nap."

Right when Namjoon closed his eyes, a black truck pulled up. "Seriously, every damn time I try to take a break," Namjoon muttered under his breath.

He tapped on the driver's seat window, and waited till it rolled down but nothing happened. He tapped it once more only to hear the car turn off.

"Um, excuse me? How much gas do you need?" Namjoon impatiently asked the customer inside the car. Peering through the tinted window, he was surprised to see that no one was in the driver's seat. He could've sworn that the truck pulled in, and that meant someone was driving it. But all he saw was a little boy with a stuffed koala in his lap, sleeping in the passenger seat.

Namjoon scampered over to the other side of the car, and knocked on the window to wake the little boy up. His hand grabbed the handle, and to his luck, it was unlocked. The little boy woke up from his sleep, and faced Namjoon.
"Hey kid, what are you doing here? Where are your parents?"

The chubby-cheeked, little boy just yawned, and blinked sleepily at Namjoon. He brought his tiny hands towards Namjoon, signaling that he wanted to be carried. Namjoon coughed, due to the awkwardness between them. He didn't know how to deal with children. Hell, he couldn't take care of himself properly.

Hesitatingly, Namjoon carried the boy and his toy and made their way towards the gas 'n sip store (which was where Namjoon also worked at).

With the kid in his arms, Namjoon walked into the store, and looked around to make sure nobody was there. Once he saw that the coast was clear, he set the little boy down on the counter and asked him the same questions as before. The little boy just sat there, hugging his koala. Namjoon sighed and decided to let the boy stay. He didn't know if his parents were harmed or if they just left him here. Namjoon thought it was best for the boy to stay with him for now.
