November quickly left, leaving the spot to December. The snow was soon to fall, and the weather colder than ever. The students where going outside only if they had too, trying to stay in the warm castle the more they could. The prefects were crumbling under tasks, decorating the castle for Christmas with the help of teachers and ghosts. Christmas was only a few weeks away, for most people's happiness. It was not Holland's case, though.

Holland Cordero always hated Christmas.

Ever since she was made a prefect, in her fifth year, she had to decorate the Great Hall. Without knowing why, every single year, her partner to hang the wreaths was Peeves, who, by the way, isn't the most helpful person in the world. Every year she was paired with him. But that's not the only reason why she hated Christmas.

Holland hated Christmas because it meant long vacations.

And long vacations meant she had to go home, with the Corderos.

The Corderos aren't what you would call nice people. They weren't sympathetic, warm or joyful. No, they were strict parents, who never smiled. Holland saw her mother smile once, and she had to figure out what it was. It looked more like the face a person makes when she just bit into a lemon, in Holland's opinion.

Their personnalities weren't charming, but that wasn't the only thing.

They were ardent followers of Voldemort. Thinking that magic blood shouldn't be soiled by unpure, muggle blood. Believing there was nothing wrong with black magic.

Yet, no one knew their true colors. They were highly respected in the magic world, working at the Ministry of Magic, working closely with the Minister himself. The high amount of money they earned every year because of their jobs was almost frustrating to Holland. They had so much money, yet they kept it all to themselves, not giving a single Knut to those who truly needed it.

Holland was not bearing her parents in her heart. She never felt like they even loved her, and she never felt like they were a family. At any small mistake Holland could do, her parents would yell at her. It was clear for her she was a disappointement for them. She preferred to be a disappointement than a pride though, considering her parent's personnalities.

Her parents wanted her to follow their steps, but Holland wasn't like them. She would never be a Death Eater. The young girl couldn't tell her parents though. Who knew what they would do?

Groaning after an avalanche of glitters fell on her (thanks to Peeves), Holland heard someone laugh. She clenched her jaw, turning around, to glare at the student.

When Holland saw the disheveled black hair of James Potter, her glare hardened. Potter being the Head Boy, was the one who assigned Holland with Peeves that year.

"Having fun Cordero?" James called.

A sarcastic smile etched on Holland's pink lips, and she nicely showed him her middle finger. James' grin didn't falter one single bit. He pushed his glasses up the edge of his nose, and ran an hand throught his hair.

"Piss off, Potter", Holland said, finally putting her finger away.

"You're so fierce and mean, it almost scares me", James announced ironically. "You're slowly crushing my heart into pieces."

"I am so sorry about that, I didn't want to!" Holland fakely apologized.

"Oh, I'm sure you knew what you were doing! You're a snake after all, you exactly know where it hurts."

Holland smiled, rolling her eyes. She turned her back to James, trying to hang her wreath. When she realised she wasn't tall enough, a long, spray of curses sprang from her mouth, getting louder and louder.
