It was the night. The night that Elizabeth was dreading for more than three weeks.
She could still refuse to do it. She had the time, and it was all her decision.
If she was wise, Elizabeth wouldn't go there. But she wasn't a Ravenclaw. She was a Hufflepuff, and Hufflepuff's are there for their friends.
That was why Elizabeth Drake would spend the whole full moon with Remus Lupin.
Looking at herself in the mirror, Elizabeth was trying to find some courage before she'd meet with the Marauders. She wasn't asking herself if she should do it or not; no, Elizabeth was certain it was the right thing to do. But Lizzy wasn't super excited to face a werewolf in an hour or so.
Elizabeth took a deep breath, and closed her green eyes. She could do it. She was able to do amazing things with her magic. Theresa had taught her a few defensive spells, not really knowing the reason why she needed them.
Lizzy hadn't told the other girls. It was the firt time she was keeping a secret from them.
She knew that if Theresa, Holland and Sofia knew, they wouldn't want her to go. Not alone. But Elizabeth needed to be there for him. For Remus. And knowing that her friend needed her, was giving her enough bravery to go.
She opened her eyes, and put her vibrant red hair up in a ponytail. Elizabeth put on old comfy clothes, took her wand and left quietly her dormitory, picking her coat. Luckily for her, no one asked questions about why she was leaving only an hour before curfew.
Her footsteps echoing in the quiet castle, Elizabeth wandered around the Great Hall, before pushing the castle doors. The cold wind hit her right away, and tears flooded in her eyes. Her eyes were pretty sensitive, to her dismay.
The Hufflepuff glanced around, and soon noticed the four shadows around the Whomping Willow. She jogged towards them, putting on her coat at the same time.
"Are you sure you want to do this?" James asked Elizabeth before she even had the time to greet them.
"Yes, I am", Lizzy said, a relentless determination shining in her eyes.
James nodded, and walked towards her. He gently put his hands on her shoulders, and stared at her worriedly.
"You know, it is dangerous", James whispered. "I'm not saying that you're not brave, or not capable of being here. But I really think it'd be better for Remus if you weren't here."
"Why?" Elizabeth asked, wiggling her eyebrows. "I mean, I can understand he doesn't want to hurt me. But I'm pretty sure he doesn't want to hurt you either. Yet, he lets you be with him. Why not me?"
"Because Pad, Wormatil and I have some advantages", James muttered. "You don't have those. And he cares for you. A lot. He doesn't want your perception of him change because of what will happen tonight."
Elizabeth's eyes drifted to Remus, who was sitting in the grass. His skin was so white, he almost looked like a ghost. The bags under his eyes were a proof of how tiring his condition was, and his eyes were closed. Lizzy didn't like to see him that way.
And it was about to get worse.
"James, I know", Elizabeth whispered. "I really do. It is dangerous. But I know a lot about werewolves, and I know alot about fighting. I will be alright. And if the situation gets out of control, I'll run and leave if you ask me to. I promise. But please, let me try. I'll do everything to help you."
James stared at her for a second, and then nodded slowly.
"You're a great friend, Elizabeth", he finally said. "You have my respect."
