"Good morning!" Levy waved.
"Hey, morning! You're here early," Erza remarked.
"The best jobs are always posted early in the morning," laughed Gajeel.
Natsu wolfed down his food. "You're totally right about that!"
The famous guild situated at the center of Magnolia started its mornings rowdy as usual. People were busy chatting up, eating their breakfast, and deciding what missions they should go on for the day. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary; at least, it seemed like that to them. Lucy Heartfilia, the guild's sole celestial wizard, was sitting at the bar drinking her strawberry milkshake with the same downcast and blank expression.
"Hey, let's go on a mission today!" Natsu yelled.
"Sounds good," Gray smirked. "Just make sure that you don't blow up another city."
"I should be the one saying that, Ice Princess," Natsu scoffed.
"You must be joking," Gray glared.
The two butted their heads against one another and glared menacingly at one another. The two were the same as usual and needless to say, Erza soon came up to them before they could wreck the guild hall.
"Would you two stop it already?!" Erza smashed their heads against one another.
"Aye~" the two replied, laying on the floor with bumps on their heads.
"Natsu-san, Gray-san, it's too early in the morning to be fighting," Wendy chuckled nervously, Carla in her hand.
"Exactly," Carla agreed.
Natsu and Gray stood up and their previous argument was soon forgotten. The four of them laughed happily along with their exceeds flying by their side as they went up to the request board. Lucy looked at their group longingly before turning back to her milkshake. She was no longer a part of them and she herself knew that more than anyone. After all, the one that truly belonged to their group was...
"Lisanna!" Natsu waved. "Perfect timing! Let's go on a mission!"
"Sure!" she smiled brightly.
"Then it's decided," Erza smiled. "Let's get moving."
"Aye~!" Happy exclaimed.
The seven of them departed, leaving Lucy behind. Since the Grand Magic Games several months ago, she had long been forgotten by everyone in the guild and no one ever remembered a mage by the name of Lucy Heartfilia. She never existed in their eyes and never will. Her eyes shone with lament and wail; even if she cried now, she doubted that anyone would notice. Lucy got up and left, leaving the half-empty strawberry milkshake on the counter.
"I wonder if someone had been drinking this?" Mirajane asked herself with a confused expression. "Whatever."
The bustling streets of Magnolia appeared empty to her and she walked along the stone ground, back to the only thing she could call "home" in Magnolia. Her head was down and though the townspeople called out to her, she couldn't hear them. Her world was silenced and it was but a monotonous dull black and white color. They worried for her and cursed at themselves at their inability to do nothing.
"Lucy, do you want me to hold back this month's rent?" the landlady asked her.
Lucy shook her head. "I'll think of a way."
The landlady stared at her with eyes of sympathy. "I'll hold back this month's rent. Until then, get ahold of yourself. Even though you look normal on the outside to everyone else, you look like a walking corpse."
