"In fact, if I had to choose someone who I think would be the best company after Kyubey," she leaned down and smiled at him. "It would be Rogue."
Minerva, Rufus, Orga, Yukino, Lector, and Kyubey were left baffled at what she had just said for one, they had not thought that Lucy would favor Rogue as second and two, they didn't think that she would even favor someone besides Kyubey - with the exception of Minerva, who was left depressed when she heard that it wasn't her that Lucy favored second. Frosch's face, on the other hand, seemed to light up with delight at the prospect of Rogue having a chance. Though, Sting's face was the most unreadable. He didn't know who he should direct his anger towards for both Rogue and Lucy were important to him. But, the idea that the two looked so close with one another sent his mind into turmoil.
"E-Ehhh?!" Rogue stammered, his cheeks flushed a deep red.
Lucy smiled at him and sat down, setting her umbrella aside as the others just watched on in anger and confusion.
"How?!" Minerva glared.
Rogue felt a shiver run down his spine as he noticed Sting and Minerva glaring at him with hateful intentions. Though it was Minerva's fierce anger that troubled him the most for everyone was aware that when Minerva was angry, she was really angry - and in the case of Lucy, it was going to be on a whole other level.
"That's right, Lucy," Orga had to question, too.
"I don't remember any moment in which you two interacted much, either," Rufus agreed.
"I also wish to ask you for the reason," Rogue inquired.
Lucy just stared at them, every one of them anxiously waiting for her reply to the point where their palms were gripped with sweat. Lucy held a finger to her cheek and looked up, thinking about how she should reply. She tilted her head, her eyebrows slanted in an apologetic look as she chuckled.
"I wonder about that."
They face-palmed themselves. They were wrong to expect a real answer out of Lucy.
"But," she said, turning around to look at Rogue. "If I had to say something, it would be that I like his silence."
Rogue stared wide-eyed at her as she met his dark crimson eyes, a soft and fulfilling look in those chocolate orbs of hers. She liked him because his silence was soothing to her and his presence alone calmed her. Even though he didn't say much, that was what she liked about him. He didn't pester her or demand anything from her and just the fact that he could read the atmosphere around her was enough for her. She liked him because he was Rogue, nothing more and nothing less. He was a friend that she couldn't have asked for more of.
"I see," Rogue said as the same expression swept across his face.
The two were in their own little world and Kyubey and Frosch looked at one another and smiled. Kyubey wasn't, in fact, joyous that Lucy liked someone else other than itself but nevertheless, the two companions were satisfied knowing that their respective partners were happy.
"Hmm," Sting walked up to the two of them with a smirk as he rested his arms on the table. "Rogue must be a big deal to you then."
"That's right," Lucy smiled. "But, of course, Sting is also one of the people I like."
Sting's heart leaped as a small blush crept upon his face. "Really?"
"Yup!" Lucy nodded her head.
"Lucy, Lucy! What about me?" Minerva jumped in, pushing Sting and Rogue out the way.
"Us, too~!" Frosch said, pulling along Lector.
Lucy flashed a bright smile to all of them. "In fact, I treasure every single person here at Sabertooth. After all, we're family aren't we?"
