Chapter 23 - Biochemistry

(POV Rafael)

Pagbalik ko sa suite, magkatabi si Ruri at si Copper sa sofa bed. Kumakain siya ng ice cream habang nanunuod ng television. I noticed one empty ice cream pint sa table. It must be her second tub.

"Ruri, nag dinner ka na ba?" tanong ko sa kanya.

She just looked at me and flashed her pretty smile. Tama si Hunter, mukhang kagagaling lang niya sa pag-iyak. Her eyes are swollen, but she managed to fake a smile.

"Kumain na ko kanina, dessert gusto mo?" sabay alok niya sa akin ng ice cream.

"That is your second ice cream? Naglilihi ka ba?" biro ko sa kanya, but all of the blood in her face disappeared.

It only means that she is not sure if she is pregnant or not. It only means that is not using any protection.

How can she be so naive? She agreed to be my fuck buddy. She should at least take care of herself.

But then, I can't really blame her dahil ako pa lang ang unang lalaki sa buhay niya. And to think that she's the daughter of our boss made me like I want to hit my head on the wall.

"I am just kidding, Ruri. Namumutla ka na agad sa tanong ko. You are taking something right?" tanong ko sa kanya at umupo sa tabi niya. She just shook her head at tumungo as if she made the biggest mistake of her life.

"Pero don't worry, I don't think I am pregnant," she smiled at me as if she is trying to convince me that there is nothing to worry about.

"That's good then," sagot ko sa kanya sabay kuha ng ice cream niya.

She frowned nang magsimula ko kainin ang ice cream niya. Aawayin sana niya ko, but someone knocked on the door. I thought it is just a room service, pero di ko akalain na andoon si Nika.

"Can I sleep here tonight?" she asked seductively while touching my arms pag bukas ko ng pinto.

"Nika, may kasama ako," mahina kong sagot sa kanya.

She gasped when she saw Ruri inside my room. She is probably aware now that Ruri is the daughter of our boss, pero hindi niya alam kung bakit andito si Ruri.

"Why is she here?" taas kilay na tanong ni Nika.

"She's with me."

"I mean, why is she with you?"

"I believe I don't need to explain things to you, Nika. Just go."

Inirapan lang ako ni Nika at umalis. Hindi din nakatakas sa akin ang animosity sa mata niya nang makita si Ruri sa suite ko.

"Sino si Nika? Fuck buddy mo dati?" tanong ni Ruri without looking at me.

This time, she is fuming with anger. Tama uli si Hunter, Ruri is not a good actress. You can see right through her.

"Nika is a co-worker and a friend, no more no less. At wala akong fuck buddy dati."

"But you fucked each other right? I saw you with her kanina sa rooftop pool. Hindi na kita inabala dahil busy ka sa kanya," she said while gritting her teeth.

I thought she is going to hide the fact na nakita niya ko kanina, but I guess her rage is taking control over her. I can't help but to be amused. Para siyang isang babae na nagseselos.

"Ruri, walang nangyari sa amin ni Nika kanina or noon pa. That's the truth."

"Truth? Paano mo matatanggihan ang grasya sa harapan mo na kulang na lang ialay ang sarili sa mga paa mo? You know what, nevermind. Matutulog na ko."

"Busog ka pa di ba? Bakit ka matutulog?"

"Gusto ko na matulog. Inaantok na ko. Matulog ka na din, you must be tired," inis na sabi niya bago pumasok sa kwarto.

I followed her sa loob ng bedroom, pero nagtakip lang siya ng kumot sa mukha. Kung bakit gusto ko magpaliwanag kay Ruri, hindi ko alam. I should just disregard her tantrums, but part of me wants to explain na wala talaga nangyari sa amin ni Nika.

"I know Veronika noong bata pa ako. She's just a colleague to me," sabi ko kay Ruri habang nakaupo ako sa kama.

"Tinatanong ko ba?" inis niya pa rin na sagot sa akin.

"She has a Masters in Biochemistry at a very young age. She also has a degree in Neuropharmacology. Nika is the one who is giving me those lethal untraceable poison."

"Eh di bagay kayo? Di ba may Masters degree ka din na IT? You are both good looking and smart. You are perfect with each other. Obvious naman na pumunta siya dito dahil gusto niya may mangyari sa inyo."

She sounds like a jealous girlfriend. If I am with my normal self, malamang ako pa ang magagalit sa pag-iinarte ni Ruri, but all I can feel is amusement right now...
