Chapter 34 - Curtain

(POV Ruri)

Pagmulat ko, medyo madilim ang buong paligid. Para akong nasa isang maliit na kwarto na napapalibutan ng white thick curtain. Nakaupo ako sa isang chair pero nakatali ang paa at kamay ko.

Weird, bakit maluwag yung tali ko?

Napansin ko din na parang may spotlight sa di kalayuan. Bago pa ako makapag-isip, may dalawang anino ang palapit sa akin. Isang babae at isang lalaki.

When the curtain slightly opened, I realized na ang babaeng kaharap ko ay si Veronika, samantalang ang lalaki naman ay si Hunter. Inikot ko sa paligid ang paningin ko, pero wala si Rafael.

"Bakit ako andito?" kalmado kong tanong sa kanila. If they are Rafael's so-called friends, both of them are trained assassins.

Anong ginagawa nilang dalawa sa Japan?

"We just want to talk to you, Ruri," sabi ni Hunter sabay haplos ng kamay sa mukha ko. Mabilis kong iniwas ang mukha ko sa kanya as a sign of defiance.

"Ano bang gusto niyo? Asan si Rafael?"

"Rafael is not here, no one can save you now, Ruri," nakangiti na sabi ni Hunter.

"Simple lang ang gusto namin. We want you to leave Rafael. Break up with him and stay away from him as far as possible. Don't marry him, that is what we want," sabi ni Veronika sa akin.

"Leave him?" tanong ko na parang parrot.

"Rafael is a cold blooded murderer. He is at its best when he gives his one hundred percent concentration in every mission. Because of you, he eventually became soft. He can't be an asset to our team if he has a soft side. We need him to function with his full potential," paliwanag ni Hunter.

"Eh di tanggalin niyo siya sa trabaho. Find a replacement," sagot ko sa kanya.

"Rafael is not exactly a replaceable asset. He is a one of a kind talent. We can't afford to lose him in our team. You, Ruri on the other hand, you are useless to us. You may be the daughter of our boss, but you have no bearing with all of our missions. We don't need you, we need Rafael," dagdag ni Nika.

They want me to leave Rafael? Ngayon pa na sinasabi ko kay Rafael na hindi ko siya iiwan?

"What will happen if I don't want to leave him?" taas noo ko na tanong sa kanila.

"You know what will happen, Ruri. We will just eliminate you and make it appear like an accident. Your father will not know it. Rafael will not have a slightest idea about your accident. If you value your life, leave Rafael," sabi ni Hunter in his nervous voice.

"Hunter, don't treat me like a stupid brat. If I leave Rafael, sooner or later, you will just track me and kill me eventually as I am a loose end. That's how you usually work right? You kill those so-called loose ends?" tanong ko kay Hunter and he just looked at Veronika.

"No, promise. We won't kill you, cross my heart. Just say that you will stay away from him," sabi ni Hunter na parang isang bata. Nakataas pa ang isa niyang kamay as a sign of his promise.

"Alam niyo, hindi lang kayong dalawa ang nag banta sa buhay ko. Rafael even pointed a silencer once in my head. He also wants to kill me because I discovered his secret life," paliwanag ko sa kanila.

"He did? Unbelievable," gulat na bulong ni Nika kay Hunter.

"I guess so. That man has no limits," bulong na sagot ni Hunter.

"Ruri, don't make it hard for all of us. You can't marry Rafael. We are living a double life, we have enemies. Our enemies can use you against us," sabi ni Hunter na kulang na lang lumuhod sa harapan ko para hiwalayan ko si Rafael.

He is practically begging me to leave Rafael as if his life depends on it. I don't get it. They are both acting weird.

"Hunter, if Rafael became my husband, I am a good cover for his so called assassin life," sagot ko dahil parang gusto ni Hunter na hiwalayan ko si Rafael.

"This girl is really stubborn, Hunter. Can we just kill her now?" sabi ni Nika sabay tutok ng baril sa ulo ko.

"Wait, Nika. We can still convince her. She can move to the US and start a new life far from Rafael as possible. She's smart and this is a nice offer. Ruri, I think you should really really really accept our offer," sabi niya sa akin as he lowered Nika's gun.

"Ruri, you heard the man. Just give us your word that you will leave Rafael and we will give you your freedom. Pwede din naman patayin na lang kita?" sabi ni Nika at tinutukan na naman ako ng baril.

Hunter lowered her gun again. Both of them are looking at each other. Para silang nag-aaway na bata. Kung pwede lang silang mag patayan gamit ang mata, I bet they are already dead.

"Rafael, I know that you are here! Show yourself!" sigaw ko out of nowhere which made their eyes widened.

I looked at both of them and I just shook my head. Hunter and Veronica are highly trained assassins, but they are bad actors.

Di ko alam kung matatawa ako or maiinis sa ginagawa nila sa akin. They are forcing me to leave Rafael. They want me to say na hindi ko na itutuloy ang kasal ko kay Rafael.

"Rafael, this is not funny! I will still marry you whether you like it or not! If you want to break up with me, just say so!" I shouted again and this time, mas malakas. My voice echoed. Just like I have expected, we are in a much bigger room.

"What are you talking about? Rafael is not here," kabado na sabi ni Hunter.

Kanina pa siya kinakabahan. Hindi na ako magtataka kung maiihi siya sa pants niya. He is already sweating.

"Rafael, I am warning you! If your ass is not here within a minute, we are really done!" sigaw ko kay Rafael.

"It is your fault Nika, nahalata ka niya. Wala kang alam sa theatre arts. Di ka pwedeng artista," bulong ni Hunter kay Nika.

"My fault? It is your fucking fault. You are suppose to scare her, not flirt with her! You are way out of your script. Di ba sabi ni Rafael, takutin mo? May fight scenes pa kayo di ba?" Nika whispered back.

"Ay shit, oo nga pala! Fuck! Rafael would surely hate me for this!"

Tumingin lang sa akin si Hunter and he just sighed. Napa kamot siya ng ulo as if he made the biggest mistake of his life.

"How did you know?" Hunter asked me.

"Highly polished marble floor and elegant ceiling? It means nasa hotel pa rin tayo," naka ngiti ko na sagot sa kanya.

"Yeah, but how did you know that Rafael is behind this?"

"I don't know, it is just a wild guess," I smiled at him.

They both sighed in defeat and left me...
