Chapter 9: Whitebeard

"Really surprising, right?"

Yasopp patted Nami's head. She didn't turn her eyes from the ocean, just nodded.

"He really is the strongest man in the sea, wakes up just a few days after the surgery." Yasopp smiled. When Nami wanted to say something, Beckman came out from the cabin.

"Whitebeard wants to meet you, Nami."

Nami widened her eyes, Beckman nodded and signaled her to follow. When they were outside the room, Nami could feel a great pressure from the room. She couldn't resist and moved back. Beckman patted her shoulder with encouragement and opened the door. When Nami entered the room, Whitebeard and Shanks turned to her.

"Come here, Nami." Shanks gave Nami an encouraging smile.

Nami took a deep breath and walked to them. Every step forward, Nami could feel stronger pressure. When she finally stood in front of Whitebeard, she thought she would fainted but she concealed her uncomfortable.

"So... you are the girl who saved my life? So to Ace?"

Whitebeard's voice as loud as the thunder, it was not a patient's voice. Nami nodded slowly. Whitebeard raised his eyebrow doubtfully.

"I must admit, I was surprised when Red Hair told me our life were saved by a little girl. What is your name, girl?"

Shanks gave Whitebeard an annoyed look. "I have told you, she is-"

"I want to hear her introduce herself, any problem?"

Whitebeard gave Shanks a warning glare, Shanks sighed. Nami cleared her voice.

"I am Nami, the navigator of Monkey.D.Luffy."

When Whitebeard heard Luffy' s name, his eyes widened a little. "You are that brat's crew? That's explained your courage to save my life."

"You know Luffy?"

Nami wished she could know something about her captain in the Marineford War. Whitebeard grinned.

"That brat, just like his brother, Stubborn and impulsive. I didn't expect Ace's little brother would come."

Shanks heard Whitebeard's description about Luffy and laughed. "I didn't expect Luffy that idiot would go to Marineford,too! He has reminded me of the good old days."

"Is he alright? I heard Ace...injured for protecting him." Nami asked hesitatingly.

Whitebeard turned to Ace and his grin disappeared. He tried to get down from his bed but Shanks and Nami stopped him.

"Whitebeard! You shouldn't stand up now! Sit down!" Shanks yelled and pushed him back to his bed.

"...how about my children?"

Whitebeard didn't answer Nami's question. Instead, he turned to Shanks and asked about the Whitebeard Pirates. Shanks sighed in defeat to his question.

"They are fine, I think. We have buried You and Ace together. We didn't contact with them already."

Knowing his children were fine, Whitebeard gave a very small smile and laid on his bed, fell asleep. Shanks stood up and grabbed Nami's shoulder. "Let him have some sleep."

Midnight---

Without a reason, Nami couldn't fell asleep this night. After a couple of turning, she decided to have a walk. The wind at night was cool, Nami put on her coat and walked to the board. She looked at the starry sky and stretched.

Suddenly, she saw a gloomy shadow at the front of the ship. She hesitated about finding someone to have a look, at last she moved closer to the shadow. When she saw Whitebeard stood at there, without wearing a coat, she couldn't help and yelled.
