~Nelle Bells P.O.V.~
He had been awake for a solid hour by now and he just laid there perfectly still. The only part of him that moved were his eyes and his eyes only moved when I would, following me lazily but still following me nonetheless. I knew him too well and looking into his eyes, I know he wants to say something I just know it but he physically can't and I'm sure that's making him upset. For now he I would imagine he could probably communicate with the facial muscles around his eyes to form expressions but he didn't even bother to try to do that. Instead he laid there accepting his limitations for what they were and that was steadily breaking my heart.
"I can't tell if you recognize me or not, Lexis." I said to him because he seemed exceptionally lost and confused as he stared at me and I was uncomfortable due to not being able to figure out if that was the case or not. Even his blinks were spaced so far apart and it looked like he struggled to blink, his eyes would water from time to time because of how slow he would manage to blink. "You remember your baby crazy wife who had you scared in your office? Chasing you all around the house and yelling all the time? That's me sweetie, I'm Nelle Bells. You and I have six kids together, one who was a miscarriage. DeShawn your oldest, Trey our second oldest, Ty the middle child, Ivanna your baby girl and Lexis Junior our newest terror." I said with a smile but there wasn't a single shred of movement or a sign that indicated he was able to understand. Just the same blank stare with eyes that remained locked on mine.
With a turn of the knob to the door, it made me break my stare with him and look back to see it was his doctor along with his nurse. He was young, black hair that was always slicked back effortlessly and sharp features on his face that went along with his well groomed eyebrows. A rather short man but he was nice and looked after Lexis pretty well so far.
"And how is Lexis today?" He asked as this was his first time seeing him since he just began his shift. Grabbing some of the hand sanitizer from the dispenser that hung on the wall, he rubbed it graciously into his hands and then grabbed a pair of gloves from above the dispenser.
"He's okay, I gave him a sponge bath a little earlier on and he finally opened his eyes. He hasn't moved at all or said anything but he blinks every so often and his eyes will follow me as far as he can without moving his head." I said to the doctor. Bringing my eyes back down to his, I was startled as Lexis' had gone from a blank stare to down right wide with fear. I picked up on that instantly as I saw far more of the whites of his eyes. "No no, you're okay, Lexis. Oh God, please don't be fearful. You're just fine." I tried to calm him in a softer tone as I returned back up towards his face, I wanted to grab his hand but I don't think he would even feel me holding it if I did. "You're just fine. Nothing is happening, we're just talking." I said to him but my words weren't doing anything to soothe him.
"Hasn't moved at all?" He questioned and I nodded glancing over at his nurse, the both of them seemed to share the same though and the look on his face wasn't exactly the most humble. "I'm wondering if he's paralyzed and if so, how severe are we looking at. Can you grab me the little needle? I want to test his nerves." He explained to her and she nodded her head.
"Do you think he could have memory loss?" I asked when the room grew quiet.
"I would expect at least temporary memory loss, given the trauma to his head and at worst he'd have amnesia. I want an MRI scan- better yet a PET scan. See how active his brain is and what not." The nurse came back with a tiny needle, handing it to the doctor who then used it to poke at Lexis' arm. I don't know what this does but he continued to do this along his arm. "Yeah he doesn't feel anything." He said with a shake of his head. "Tell them down at floor one I want a PET scan ready."
