~Trey P.O.V~
Sitting at the table with Mom and Dad... everything was just hitting me and I wasn't even hungry. I didn't touch anything of what Mom made because right now there was just too many emotions going through me. Looking at Dad, he looked happy to have that burger in his hands as he took a big bite of it.
"So did Trey tell you his news?" Mom asked as she was drizzling thousand island on her salad. "Trey aren't you going to eat?"
"He told me." Dad said in between his chewing. Grabbing his water, he took a couple big sips and swallowed. "I'm shocked but not in a bad way. Congrats, it's a big change in your life but it's rewarding as long as you don't have an LJ. Speaking of, where is he anyways?"
"I'll discuss LJ with you later on, I want us to have a nice dinner." Mom said and I already knew what that meant with regards to LJ. "So I feel like there's an elephant in the room, specifically between you two, what's going on?"
"Just Dad and I having a heart to heart conversation that really spoke volumes to me. There's just a lot that I'm trying to process and handle that I've put off for a while so I'm sorry for how I am right now." I said as I pushed my empty plate farther away from me. Mom reached over and pulled me in for a side hug.
"Is it about Dad's health?" I gave a nod. "I know, we all feel it. As long as Dad says he feels okay and he watches himself closely, I think we shouldn't have too much to worry about." She said looking up at Dad. "I think the main thing for you right now, Trey. You need to get your act together, stop messing around. Get yourself situated so when your baby is here, you're not scrambling to put things together. Make sure you've got yourself a roof over your head, which I'm sure Dad and I wouldn't mind letting you stay in that house we have in Uncle Varo's neighborhood." I looked over at Dad who was so consumed by his burger but he gave a nod, "You need to be mentally prepared too, it's not about you anymore."
"Thank you, I really appreciate it and I agree I need to get my act together. I'm just glad I have y'all's support. I don't know what I'm doin' in life right now and to know I've got you guys still here for me, I couldn't ask for more."
"Still our kid, no matter how old you are." Dad said when he finished and sat back, resting his hands on his stomach. "Do we have more tater tots?" He asked and Mom nodded. "Ooh, then I want more tots and another burger. I'll eat some salad too if it makes you happy, Nelle Bells." He wasn't too enthusiastic about the salad by the sound of his voice.
"Dad, aren't you scared though?"
"Of the cancer?" I nodded. "Hell no. I've already come to terms with it and if that's the case, I'm gonna fight against it till I physically can't. I've fought many other times so what's another fight to me?" How Dad was able to have that mentality was beyond me. I know I rip on him a lot out of just being an ass and getting a laugh out of us but this man truly is the strongest person I know. "Between you and I, I'm more scared of your Mom." He leaned over and whispered to me as Mom was making him another plate. "That woman knows how to make my life a living hell." He said which got me to laugh a bit. "You'll understand when you're married."
"I'm not getting married." I said.
"Ever?" I shook my head. "Why's that?"
"I don't like marriage. At one point I wanted it but I don't wanna be tied down like that. I like Uncle Varo and Aunt Sweets' relationship. Been together for so fuckin' long but they don't need to be married to remain that way. They openly choose to stay with each other. That's what I want." I don't know how Breezy could be wanting to get married, happy for him but I don't know, I guess it's just a personal preference thing.
