Our Love Story

She said, I was seven and you were nine
I looked at you like the stars that shined
In the sky, the pretty lights

"Psst. Maddie, right?" a tall kid asked me.

She knows me?

"Yeah. How did you know my name?" It's strange 'cause I've never met her before, yet she knows me already.

"Well, Dad told me that I should play with you and he told me your name." she explained.

"Oh. Okay. And you?" I asked.

"Isabel Beatriz, but you can call me Bea naman." she smiled.

Well, I am not allowed to curse pa diba? 'Cause we're kids pa lang. So, author, I know you fancy cursing but not now please.

"Nice to meet you, Isabel Beatriz. I am Madeleine Yrenea, but call me Maddie." I introduced myself.

Looking at her, she's like a boy trapped in a girls body. Why? She's so pogi for a girl eh.

And our daddies used to joke about the two of us
Growing up and falling in love and our mamas smiled
And rolled their eyes and said oh my my my

Bea and I are sitting here on the corner, lost in our own little world. I never thought that she's so daldal pala ah? When I first look at her kasi kanina, she looks serious but she's a goofball din pala.

"Din, look at our daughters, they're enjoying each other's company huh?" I heard tito Elmer said to Papa.

"Yeah. Seems like they'll be bestfriends eh?" Papa answered

"Or lovers." Tito Elmer continued and they laughed.

Bea and I are just watching them. They're talking about us like we're not here huh?

"Bea!" Tito Elmer called.

"Yes dad?"

"When you grow up, court Maddie ah?" Papa blurted

And our chinky eyes got wide.

"Papa/Tito" Bea and I said in unison.

"See? They're soulmates." Tito Elmer teased and he and Papa had a hearty laugh.

"JP! It's like you're selling Maddie ah?" saway ni Mama.

I just smiled. Mama's gonna be with me all the time.

"Hey! I am not. That's what you call planning" Papa defended

"We saw the future, they'll surely end up together." Tito Elmer said.

"Whatever Elmer. Just leave the kids alone." Tita Det said.

They're making saway of Tito and Papa but they're smiling rin naman.

Inaya nya kasi ako na umakyat sa tree house nya but I'm afraid of heights eh.

"What if I fall?" I asked

"Nah. You won't. I won't let you. I gotchu." She said

And there. She convinced me. It's not that scary naman pala and it's good to be here ah. Fresh air and cool place.
