I was in p.e and having a somewhat nice day, the bullies were off and I wasn't so stressed. It was a double period of p.e and it was also the end of the day. Mr ampora was going around helping the other kids, I lift my body armor up and scratch the top of my arm fast too not let anyone see the collage of cuts I now have. It was getting close to the Christmas break so it had been a while since I started. I freeze when I hear my name

"Karkat"

I turn around, it was Mr ampora

"Can I have a word in my office?"

Busted!

"Don't you need to teach the class?"

"Do you want detention?" He raises an eyebrow, I sigh

"No..."

"Then Come on"

The class chorus an "oooooo!"

~~ in Dualscars office~~

I sit down and look at Mr ampora as he sits in his chair

"Can I have a look at your arms?"

Shit shit shit shit!

".....why?'' I act dumb

"Curiosity" he simply says

"What if I say no?"

"I wont force you but I'm doing this for your well being and frankly putting up a fight will get you no where"

".... you saw didn't you...."

"Yes..."

I sigh and look down, this is going to be fun(!)

"Listen karkat, I'm worried about you"

"Why..."

"Because i care about my students and there's been.... unfortunate incidents... with ones that have harmed" he looks too the side. I say nothing

"Look, i want u safe just like I'd want my sons safe, OK?"

"I'm not family, sir" I mumble

"Please don't tell my dad.... he's stressed enough and I don't want to add to it"

Dad has been organizing the Christmas party along with marking tests and homework, sometimes kankri will help him if he isn't going college work. I've noticed dad stays up way too late to get things done on time, or else the condese will see that he's behind on work and fire him. No one but miss Leijon likes her and they're going out so I don't count it. Disciple and dad broke up when we  came to earth, he found out that she started liking the condese more than him and decided to let her follow her heart. Sometimes he's too kind for his own good. Since she started dating the condese though she's became more angry and agitated, it's what happens I guess. Besides, dad doesn't need her.

"Well.... can you promise me something?"

"......depends on what it is sir"

"Promise me if you ever feel down or want to hurt urself you'll come and talk to me. I can be a shoulder to cry on or a punching bag or whatever u need, ok?"

"I'm not going to hit you sir, I don't hit parents"

He smiles "you're a nice kid, no wonder Eridan likes you"

I sit up straight and blush "huh?!"

"My son, hipster dork people call him"

"Yeah I know who he is, what do you mean by likes?"

"Oh uh...  he didn't say" he looks genuine, I sigh

"Oh.." why do I feel disappointed?

"Mmm, he was really hoping to make some friends here but no ones really giving him a chance"

"...I'm his friend"

" oh? Would you like to come over for dinner?"

"Oh uh I dunno"

He nods and spins a pen. I look at him

"You're a really good teacher"

"I...am?"

"Yeah, dad says you're a good one too"

He blushes, I smirk

"Ooooh"

"What?"

"You like my dad"

" .....yes " he looks defeated, I just smile

"Well, he is single. Maybe you should ask him out"

"You know...there was this one time....i wonder if he remembers"

".....don't tell me you two fucked.." I shiver at the thought.

" ..."

"OK I NEED TO WASH MY MIND!"  I stand up, that's not something I wanna know!

he laughs

"ill tell you a short story, its very romantic"

I stop and look at him

"Romantic?...."

"Yes"

I sit back down and fold my arms, intrigued

"...go on"

"When me and your father were young, he was the great and mighty jegus, and i was under the rule of the condese. I would sneak off to watch his sermons almost every night, just to watch him and learn from him and i fell in love with him very quickly."

I'm already smiling like a fool.

"I eventually gained the courage to talk to him, we hit it off and i sail him and his followers around the seas. We got very close and fell in love"

"What happened?" I wonder out loud

"the condese found him and made him face death... i was forced to watch the pain he went through as he died...."

He trails of, I can practically feel his heart break

"Oh... "

"A short while later i was trialed by ghb, i had to make him laugh and guess what? I failed. I got a clubbing alright and that's what killed me. I didn't get to say goodbye to signy. I dont even know if he still remembers..

" dad... doesn't tend to talk about his past. Only to tell us important things he learned.... actually, now that I think of it, he talks about you a lot"

"Really?"

"Yeah, that, anyone can change. No matter what they have been through or what they're going through. All you need to do is be there for them"

He smiles

"Also how much alcohol he can take"

He chuckles " he isn't  a lightweight but he doesn't handle hangovers well"

" he says you always bet him "

"You can't beat a pirate at drinking, lad" his accent starts coming through. I smile

"Thanks for this talk sir"

"Please, when it's just us, you can call me dual"

"OK... dual" I smile more
