DIY Fails

"Hand me the instruction manual again..." Harry pursed his lips as he frowned in concentration, trying to figure out what we did wrong while trying to assemble the DIY wooden cabinet we bought from Ikea the other day.

I handed the manual to him but doubted he would ever get it. It might as well be written for dwarves or something as the words are to small to pass as legible.

I laughed as squinted at it like an old man checking out dinner menus. I went over to him and peered from behind his shoulder, trying to read it as well.

"I think it says: give up trying to read this because it's practically useless." I offered helpfully while Harry turned around to face me, amidst all those white wood piles around us.

"You know what? Why don't we just...." He bent down and grabbed a long wood and 2 shorter ones near it. He then balanced the two short ones apart and placed the long one flat against the both of them.

"There. A bench." Harry huffed and I burst out laughing, knowing that he grew frustrated from messing the cabinet up.

I turned his face towards me with my finger and smoothed his eyebrows so that they're not furrowed before gently soothing him: "Harry baby, as much as I want to go with your idea so we could get this over with, I'm sure Anne would appreaciate it more if we stuck to the plan..."

Anne had been complaining about the lack of space to store her stuff lately and Harry and I decided to build a cabinet for her from scratch. But.... things are definitely not going our way.

Harry lowered his head, not looking at me. I sighed and took out my phone, opened the camera and pointed it to the manual. I then enlarged it to read the instructions. No point in the both of us moping around, someone's got to actually do this.

I struggle but managed to read the manual then assemble it. Sure it was slow without Harry's help (he was still beating himself up for not being able to do it), but it was manageable.

When I was halfway there, Harry decided to come and help. I rolled my eyes slightly and said: "Oh look who decided to stop by? Just when I can manage without you...."

Harry glared at me, his face red. I was pretty sure he's blushing out of embarrassment for abandoning me just for a petty sulk.

Harry's voice was low and raspy as he apologized: "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have sulked and complained like a baby.... what can I help you with?"

My heart softened at his sincerity and I went over to hug him. "Harry, it's fine... Glad to see your frown turned upside down.... Hey, that rhymes!" I giggled, happy that he's okay now.

Harry rolled his eyes playfully and kissed me. After we broke off, Harry blushed: "Sorry for acting like a baby, it was really immature of me, really...."

I tried to make him feel better by joking: "Since you decided that you're not a baby anymore, it wouldn't be counted as child labor if I ask you to help me gather those pile of woods now, would it?"

Harry chuckled, back to his old self and saluted: "Ay ay, ma'am!"

We made a pretty good team, I'd like to say. The white wooden cabinet looked amazing and glamourous, filled with me and Harry's love.

And of course, Anne adored it.
