N A Y A

I listen to her foot tapping wildly against he floor while her eyes stay glued to the clock.

"It's eight fifteen, she should be home by now," she says with a shakiness to her voice.

"I'm sure she's fine, love." She sighs and nods her head, trying to convince herself that what I say is true.
"What do you say you go ahead and get ready for bed so when she gets here you two can get to sleep?" I ask and she hesitantly nods.

"Yeah... yeah I think that's a good idea." She stands up off the couch and slowly and shakily walks to the stairs. She grips the rail and starts on her way up.

I head a somewhat loud thump and look up to see that she's fallen down.

"Oh, honey are you okay?" I ask with concern, closing my book and rushing to her aid. She shakes her head.

"Yeah, just my balance is a little off, that's all." I nod.

"Okay, here let me at least help you up."

'J A N E'

She takes my hand and pulls me up like I weigh absolutely nothing, taking me by surprise.

It's not until now that I realize just how very muscular she is. She looks like she could actually kill me, like one blow from her would knock me out for a couple of days.

And surprisingly, all of a sudden I feel the safest I've felt since I woke up in that hospital bed.

"Naya," I start and she looks down at me.

And when I say looks down, I mean actually looks down.

It's not till now that I realize just how tall she is either. She actually towers over me.

"Could you maybe help me up the stairs?" A beautiful smile falls over her features and she nods her head.

"Yes, of course." She holds my arm and we walk up the stairs together.
"Keep it up, you're doing great," she whispers right before we make it to the last step.

We make it to the room and she helps me onto the bed. She pulls the covers over me and takes my face in her hands. I look over to her with a start, a confused expression on my face.

"I'm going to make you a promise right now, Jane Doe," she says, running her thumb over my cheek, giving me chills.
"I promise that no matter what, I'm going to keep you safe. Nobody will ever hurt you, nobody will ever lay a hand on you or so help me I'll kill them with my own bare hands."

And I don't think for even a second that she's kidding.

"I trust you..." I whisper and she nods her head, kissing my forehead.

"Good," she sighs.
"Good, because I need you to trust me right now when I say you need to get some sleep," she says in a soft tone that doesn't match her body.

"But I have to wait till,"

"I will make sure that Erin knows that you waited for her, and that you said goodnight," she runs a hand through my hair and my head slightly bobs to the side. I nod, seeing her point.
