Maybe scream isn't the right word to describe the sound, maybe angry shriek would be better.
Jay drops keys on the table but I take his hand.
"I've got this one, I need you out here if Brooke needs anything."
"I don't know, Er-"
"Hey, I've know her since she was 18, I've got this." He nods. I walk over over to her room and take a deep breath.
I open the door to Naya's room and she's standing in the middle of the room, eyes open but she's definitely still asleep. She hears the door creek open and turns to look at me.
"Naya, it's okay," I say smoothly in a calming voice. "It's okay, Im not going to hurt you." She takes a step foreword, a hand on where her belt would be if she had one on.
"Naya, it's okay..." I whisper and she takes another step towards me.I'm not worried, she won't hurt me. Somewhere down in there she knows that she knows me.
I'm taken by surprise when she walks up to me and stares down at me. She usually just stands there until I walk over to her and get her to wake up.
"Let me out." Is all she whispers and I sigh. I know what's going on. This is about her father.
"Naya, this isn't-"
"Let me out!" She yells grabbing my wrist. I'm taken aback by this, she usually never gets physical...
"Naya, please listen to me-"
"No!" She yells and takes me by the shoulders.
"Where's Naomi? What did you do?" She yells and I only look back at her, a confused look on my face."I don't know what you're talking about." A dark expression hangs on her face, she growls at me and throws my body into the wall. I hit the surface hard, as she's extremely strong.
"Woah, Naya! Calm down, it's me!" I say, standing back up."You killed her!" She yells, grabbing a hold of my shirt and pushing me into the wall with a strong force.
"Killed who? Naya, listen, It's me!" She shakes her head and throws me at the dresser, a picture falling down and shattering.
Jay runs in with a start and looks down at me, then Naya.
"Jay, no!" I yell as he runs at her and grabs her. He may be strong, but Naya is stronger, even with only one good arm. She groans and breaks free of his grip, pushing him down to the ground.I hear footsteps and my heart stops.
Oh my gosh...
Brooke
She grabs a shard of glass from the broken picture, gripping it so hard her hand drips blood and walks over to me. She gets on
top of me and brings it to the air, but Jay grabs her hand, restraining her. She tries to pull away, but Jay has the better grip. I get up quickly and grab hold of her face."Naya, look at me, it's me!" She still resists, and I don't blame her, she's dreaming, she thinks he's her father.
"Nava Löbel, look at my face," the mention of her real name gets a rise out of her, she angrily shakes her body trying to break free, but fails.
"Naya Cage, listen to my voice," I brush a piece of her dark hair away from her face and run a hand over her cheek.
"Naya, it's me, it's me, please hear me," her expression softens slightly.
"Naya, wake up, it's me, it's Erin," she stops struggling at the mention of my name.
"It's me, honey," I whisper and a tear falls down her cheek. I nod to Jay and he slowly lets her go. She looks down at her hand and drops the glass. She looks back up with a confused expression."What did I-?" She stutters. She's awake.
I shake my head."It's okay, Naya, it's okay..." I say almost out of breath. She looks up at my forehead.
"You're bleeding, Erin." She says and her eyes widen.
"Did I hurt you?" She asks with terror in her voice. I shake my head."You're fine-"
"Did I hurt you or not?" She asks with a shakiness to her voice. I stare at her and sigh.
"Yes, Naya. But-" she covers her mouth with her hands.
"No, no no no... I, I'm so..." she looks up to Jay, then back to me. Tears spill out of her eyes, and my heart breaks a little for her.
I haven't seen her cry since she was 18.
"Naya, it's okay, you're safe it's okay..." I pull her into my arms, which seems silly, as she's about 6 inches taller than me.
She falls down my body, but I catch her and safely set her body on the ground. She lays her head in my lap and cries silently.
"It's okay, honey..." she shakes her head.
"I could've killed you, Erin..." I nod.
"It's okay, Naya." Jay kneels down and puts a hand on her back.
Brooke silently opens the door and looks at me, then at Naya.
She mouths the words
'Is she okay?' And I shake my head, mouthing for her to go back to bed and she nods her head and closes the door back.Such a sweet kid.
And I just sit there with her, it the dark on the floor until she cries herself to sleep, and stay with her the rest of the night.
