After Mother's and my birthday, Lady Lilly came back from the capital while Kitri, Lorice, and sore loser Flo went back home. We celebrated Louise's birthday along with ours since she was only a few days before me, so the Lady was in despair that she missed such an event. Apparently there was more Demon activity mixed up in the festivals in the capital, so many people weren't allowed to leave for a while. It was chaos.
She took Milo and Louise home with her, traveling by horse drawn carriage again. I asked her why she didn't use a magic powered one, and she told me it was because it gave her more time before she had to see her bastard of a husband again.
The people in the surroundings widened their eyes when they heard her say that, but I just nodded and told her it made sense.
"Be safe," I whispered to little Milo. His Mother picked him up and brought him to the carriage, Sebastien smiling for the first time to show how happy he was that they were finally leaving. Good riddance, I'm glad to see you gone as well! "Safe travels," I hugged little Louise who was eye level with me, but she put her head down so I couldn't see her eyes.
Then, she turned around and dashed off for the carriage since I was the last one she had to say goodbye to.
"Is-Is it possible...am I hated?!" I clutched my heart while Mother clamped a hand on my shoulder.
"You're denser than me."
"Not true!" But she was still smiling, so I paused. "Wh-What did I miss that you understood?"
Her grin widened into a smirk, and she pulled away. "Oh, nothing."
"This is revenge for the kitchen and cooking thing, isn't it?!"
"Definitely," Father pushed his teasing wife back into the house while rolling his eyes.
Woah! When has that ever happened before?!
"Do it again!" Hera and Adri chased after Father, having seen it as well. They looked fairly desperate to see their father do something relatable. "Do that thing again!"
He didn't answer our wishes.

It takes, by mana powered carriage, one full day to get to the duke's mansion. By horse drawn, it should take about three days.
They left from our mansion before dawn was even close to rising, so that when the day ended they would be a safe distance outside of Basusda but ready to cross it in the ten hours of daylight they have in one go. Honestly, it was pretty risky, but Sebastien had absolutely insisted upon going straight through to get home faster.
After that, they would rest because riding through Basusda even during daylight was tiresome with all the beasts that finally came out to play, then ride out of the forest on the last day and arrive home.
Simple, right?
No.
That's how it was supposed to be, but that's not how it went.

It was very late at night when all of us family members, all seven (including Chord and Anthem) of us, were getting together for a little family meeting.
It wasn't a meeting exactly, just a time we sometimes have when we look back on the year so far and think about stuff. Share some memories, tell about current situations, buffering each other for anything that is to come.
