After a very awesome ride through the city in a great wardrobe change courtesy of Knight, we were transferred back to the castle. I had walked through the portal that appeared in front of me so fast I couldn't pull back, and a dizzy spell came over me so I had to grab onto the coffee table in the parlor we had arrived in.
What?
We're going to be commoners now? Is this a joke? Father, what types of ideas are you trying to spout? Andrew will-
"Are you saying we have to go into that crowd of crazed-"
I knew it.
But for some reason, we were transferred out into an alley off the main street we had passed by earlier, without Andrew and Knight. We decided to wait in a pleasant silence as I listened to the noise coming from further out of the alley, sitting on a box.
I didn't know why, but I was happy to see that Andrew was only semiconscious. He was always energetically trying to make things worse, so whenever he was quiet it felt very nice.
Knight's excuse: "We had to have a little talk before we came out here. Wouldn't want him getting in trouble by insulting someone, you know..."
Ah, I love this lady already.
Father said they were going to "talk" later, but I knew he probably didn't win half the debacles he had with Knight. A king, failing to argue with someone. It was hysterical to me, and even though I didn't show it outside, I was screaming with laughter internally. my face was one schooled with peace and mere interest in the bright day.
When we were about to go, leaving the passed out boy and king behind, I realized Knight was going to walk out into the street with her Demon associated attire. I asked her if she could transform, which made her say she would also have to talk with the king...Lars asked a lot of valuable questions of Father before she came back with Andrew, some of which he should not have answered, I'm sure.
What came back a minute later was the prettiest girl I'd ever seen; the prettiest girl besides my mother of course. I'd said I wanted a big sister without meaning to, thinking about wanting to look natural in the town. I'm glad I said it though, because we had a blast.
When it came to lunch time, we wandered into an inn to eat. This was after breaking out of jail and using fire magic to dry our soaked clothes, since I wouldn't let Knight go any further with that...look. More than a few young men let their eyes wander to the heavy clothes that did well in revealing outlines. Truly, her transformation magic was top notch. Not a single flaw to be seen, every detail natural and plausible. Pleasing as well, to the eye.
When we sat down to eat, we looked over the menu. I'd had only cold food in the castle, what with it having to go through so many poison checkers before it finally got to me, so I enjoyed the food we got even though it wasn't the best.
"Kni-I mean...wait, what are we supposed to call you again?" I asked after almost blowing our cover. Not that anyone would've noticed, but you could never be sure. We had been chatting for a while, Lars distracted by the noodles he'd ordered that looked like bowties.
"I don't know," she shrugged, thin shoulders going up and down.
"Hm..." I looked at her features, which looked so much like my Mother's portrait at first that I wanted to just hop in her arms and demand she brush my hair, as Mother used to. But this was not a "mother." This was a "sister." "What about Kaya? I heard from my mother a long time ago that it meant 'sister.'"
Apparently, I said something wrong.
Knight blinked, stopped breathing. She had stopped in all her movements, which was going to lift her glass of water. It slipped out of her hands and crashed to the floor, creating a loud shattering noise and puddle on the wood.
