As soon as the clock turned to 6 o'clock on Christmas morning, Skye bolted out of her bedroom and ran into Rocky's, jumping on his bed and waking him up. The boy groaned and pulled a pillow over his head.
"Skye! I was having a good dream!" He wined.
"Aw were you and Zuma under the mistletoe?" She teased.
"Ugh! No!" She asked him that question every time he said that.
"Oh Sorry were you under covers?" She giggled.
"Shut up Skye!" Rocky laughed, hitting her with a pillow, making each of them laugh.
"Why'd ya wake me up."
"Because," she smiled and then yelled. "It's Christmas!" Rocky covered his ears.
"Sheesh! Calm it down."
"Come on! Let's go!" She laughed, dragging the still half asleep boy down the stairs to the living room.
At about ten, the family were almost finished with presents but Skye and her parents still had another to give.
"Hang on Rocky," Skye smiled. "I just need to get it." She walked out of the room.
"Blimey Skye. What've you got me!?" He asked surprised. The door reopened and in trotted a small, scruffy grey pup. It had a dark circle around one eye and they were the most beautiful amber-brown colour. The bundle of fur ran and jumped onto the boy's lap and covered him in licks.
"Rocky, meet Rivet." Skye smiled, her own pup at her feet.
"Skye! Thanks so much! You really shouldn't have Skye!"
"Well at least you're not the odd one out anymore."
"I don't even know if I'll be able to take him with me if I get adopted." He sighed, stroking the now calm canine. He looked at the floor.
Skye and her parents smiled at each other.
"Anyway we still have one more thing for you Rocky." Her mother smiled warmly and handed the boy an envelope. He looked puzzled but opened it nonetheless.
Inside was a bundle of paperwork. Rocky gave a quizzical look at the three people opposite him.
"Just read it and you'll understand." Skye nodded. Rocky flicked through a couple of pages and as soon as he saw one word, he understood.
Adoption.
"Y-y-you guys wanna a-adopt me?" He stuttered, looking up. Skye's parents nodded at him and before anyone could say anything, Skye, Rocky and her, Well, their mother and father were in a tight hug.
"Happy?" They asked.
"You have no idea! Thank you so much really, for everything."
"Merry Christmas little brother." Skye laughed.
"Alright Titch." He pulled her hair playfully.
"Hey." Skye held up her hand and gave Rocky 'the look' "no one touches the hair. Not even brothers." She said making them laugh.
A few hours hours later, there was a knock at the door. Skye, now in a pair of jeans and Chase's hoodie, bounded to answer it. She laughed as she saw all of her friends there, laden with presents and each of them also held their dog on a lead.
"Merry Christmas you guys!" She smiled. Chase's German Shepard, Cheif, barked happily at her.
"And pups." Skye giggled. The latter gathered in the living room and talked about their days so far. Rocky was still ecstatic about now because adopted by the parents of one of his best friends. While he blabbered on to the group, Skye lay back onto Chase and the couple smiled as they watched Star, Skye's small cockapoo, run and jump onto Cheif, covering him in licks as the bulldog, husky, Dalmatian, Labrador and mixed breed lay against the heater together.
"Now that you're all here," Skye's mother walked onto the room, gaining everyone's attention. "We have gifts for you all but they're hidden around the house. You need to follow the clues to find your own one." She smiled, giving the teens their own clues. The group read their clue and tore off to different places in the house to find their surprise.
