The wind whistles through my silver fur as I run back towards home. My four paws pound the earth until its only a blur beneath me. My wolf howls with excitement, at the wind blowing full force in our face.
I run until my muscles burn, and my breathe comes out in sharp gasps.
Lately my wolf has been so anxious even our longer runs can't stifle it. For the last two weeks her anxiety has been building until it almost splits the seams of my mind. With my 18th birthday only days away, I have hope she is just anxious at the prospect of becoming an adult.
When I finally enter the fringe of trees surrounding my pack's village, I slow to a trot. I try to calm my racing heart and quell the anxiety that is still ravaging my wolf. I don't want my pack, especially my mom, asking questions I don't know the answers to. I stop behind a large tree an shift back into my 5'8'' human form. I reach up into the low branches of the tree and pull down an extra set I clothes I stashed. Most of my pack members stash clothes here and there.
I slip on a pair of sweats and a shirt before heading into the village.
I head to the north east corner of the village, where my cozy two story house is nestled.
Most houses in the village are decent sized, most two stories.
When I round the last house and my home that houses me, my mom, and my annoying brother Nathan comes into view, the smell of lemonade floats to my nose, alerting me that my mom is close.
I jump when her voice sounds from behind me. "Silver! We have to go the square!" She grabs my arm, and pulls me back the way we came.
My mom is one of the very few people who can sneak up on me. Call it a gift if you will, but I have extremely heightens senses even for a werewolf.
On our way to the square, I question my mom on why we are meeting, but she only shrugs in response.
When we finally reach the square, which is really only a big cleared area in the middle of the village, I scan the gathered crowd until I spot my best friend, Beth's gaze. Her blue eyes meet my grey ones, and my worry I increases tenfold at her expression. Me and mom make our way to the back of the crowd, and wait.
Alpha Blake clears his throat from his position on a rock at the from of the crowd.
"People! Our border patrol has sent word that an unknown pack is in our territory." Before he spoke, you could have heard a pen drop, but now you wouldn't even hear a charging bull. Murmurs of disbelief ripple through the crowd. It is of the highest offense fire a pack to invade another's land without warning. I have to stifle a growl from escaping my own throat at the news.
"All able warriors need to report here at day break, we leave when everyone gathers. We should meet the intruding pack the next morning. Dismissed!" As the last word rings out, more yell break from the crowd as it starts to disperse. I groan at the prospect of being away from my mom on my birthday, which is in two days. I spin around to head home, making a slight smile break on my face, I love a good fight.
