The smell of roasting meat pulls me out of the darkness and into a smoke filled room.
I can sense as much as smell Noah near me, but when I try to let him know I'm awake, my throat cracks with dryness and I sit up coughing.
"Silver! You're awake! thank god."
I'm pulled tightly to his chest as my coughs die down. I bury my face in his warm neck and clutch onto him for dear life.
"My father?" my voice is a gravelly whisper. I don't fully know why I bother to ask, I can smell him in the room. I take a deep breath of Noah's fresh pine scent before pulling slowly away to face the fire.
When I untangle myself from Noah I rise as steadily as I can.
"Hello Chris." I turn a steady gaze on my father.
"Silver please-" he is cut off by a surprisingly authoritative voice from behind me. I spin on my heel and came face to face with a little old woman who I instantly know without a doubt is the wanderer.
"I hate to break up this joyous reunion, but these two have searched high and low for me, and now hat they have found me I think they deserve some answers."
By the end I her words both Chris who I refuse to call father, and my supposed brother, look as shocked. So I'm guessing the little old woman doesn't usually give information freely.
"Uh.... Thank you......"
"Tala" She cuts in when I pause on her title.
"Thank you Tala, and yes we, well I have more than a few questions." She motions us over to the warm fire where the meat is sizzling.
I sit down on a bear skin rug and sit as close to Noah as possible, I new his support and almost as if he knows he takes my hand firmly in his.
Chris and his son take a seat across from us and I can't help but acknowledge how similar we three look.
"Now first question?" Tala finally says after she settles into a fur lined rocking chair at the head of our taut group.
"Who are they?" I ask, pointing at the two men in front of me.
"Exactly who they said they are" Her voice is old and filled with a certain ton that lets you know just how much knowledge she has.
"But. but that's not possible. my father died! And I never had a brother!" My words come out panicky as I try to make sense of this.
" Yes your father died but I brought him back for I knew you would need him in time. And yes you have a brother, a twin actually. I guess you have been informed of your mothers peril and the requirements that were made for me to help her?" she continues after a nod from me. "Well you weren't informed of one of the conditions, that the first born of the twins would leave with me and that know one ever know of them. When Maxon was born and he left with me everyone was told he told he died, including your father. Only your mother knew he lived."
I stare at the boy across from me in shock, I have brother! not only that, a twin!
I cringe at his still bloody nose that is now healed.
"Sorry about your nose." I say sheepishly, in case he hasn't accepted the news.
A ghost of a smile touches his lips and then a real one appears. "That's what siblings do right?" I return his smile and give a nod.
More questions flood my mind but I focus on the reason for our mission, pushing my wants to the back.
"What did I do to Jonathan? Why didn't my blood work?" I try to show the memory of Jonathan's blood filled eyes away but they stay, seated into my brain.
"I'm guessing you mean the boy you turned into a hybrid?" My father and Maxon gasp and I barely manage a small nod.
"Well silly girl, you can't give and infected werewolf straight blood for that is only the way of the vampires. so since he was a child of the moon an not a bout walker the straight blood had to hind an alternative to death, so it change him into a half breed so he wouldn't reject the blood and and die. If you want to heal a wolf you have to mix the blood with something or put it on something for they can handle. for a wolf's body can handle ingested blood with another substance but just blood can kill."
I stare with my mouth open at Tala.
"So you are saying, I turned of my own pack members into a hybrid because I didn't give him a cracker with the blood?!"
She think for a minute before answering with an amused expression.
"Pretty much."
