My heart feels torn in two. From just not feeling Noah's presence next mine. IT's not normal for mates to leave each other for any period of time when they first meet, and here we are walking in opposite directions not an hour after meeting. My wolf whimpers, and I try to console her with the knowledge we will see him in an hour.

I absentmindedly rub my hand across the mark Noah just left. I smooth my hair down over my shoulders, and tug on the bottom of my shirt to straighten out some wrinkles left from Noah's large hands.

As I break through the dense trees to the semi cleared area where we earlier stashed our clothes, the Alpha spots me and jogs my way with a stony expression on his face.

"What's wrong?" I instantly question.

He takes no moment to waste and gets to the point.
"When the two packs departed, it seems that you weren't the only one who found their mate. Jonathan followed a scent and found his, a young girl named Julie from their pack."

"What's wrong with that?" I absently run my hand over my mark again. What could be so bad about a soul mate?

"Apparently Julie had a secret admirer, really more a stalker. And when he found them two, he attacked Jonathan. He shifted to fight and even though Jonathan won easily, he got bit...." He runs a hand warily through his greying hair. Could his injury have been that bad?
"And for some reason he won't wake up. He's in a coma, Silver." When he finally gets all the story out, I feel a weight lodge in my throat. A sense of dread settles over me, like a wool blanket in the heat of summer, and I can hardly breath.

Bit....... coma.......... cold peak...........

My breath comes out in sharp gusts, and I sway to the side.

This is how my father died.....

I wake up with a jolt, and my eyes fly open. A gasp works its way from my throat as I take giant gulps to satisfy my burning lungs.

When my heart rate finally settles I glance around the clearing I'm in to see it is empty except for a lone form on the ground a couple of feet away from me. I instantly realize it's Noah when his smell drifts to my nose. My muscles relax and I gently sit-up. My head pounds and I absently run a hand through my hair to release some of the tension. What happened?

And then it hits me. Jonathan's condition.

"Shit." I mumble before silently climbing to my feet. but to my astonishment, Noah wakes and sits up. Stretching his arms above his head, his shirt rides up causing a heat to rise up my neck at my staring.

"You heard me?" I can't stop myself from asking.

He laughs, and my heart melts a little.

"It would take a deaf man to not hear you cursing in the dead hours of the evening princess."

If anyone else would have called me that I would have beat the living daylights out of them, but coming from Noah's mouth, it makes a shiver crawl up my spine.

"Oh." Is all I manage, as he rises to his full stature stretching his arms above his head again. His muscles ripple and flex, and my wolf purrs. I have to redirect my line of sight to stop the thoughts coming from my wolf.

"What happened?" My mind finally comes back to the present and I ask.

"Well I felt something was bothering you, and then you just kinda left my mind, so I ran. I thought you died or something!" While he was talking he walked closer until he is as standing right in front of me, his hands encircling my arms loosely. "When I got there it would be an understatement to say your pack was not happy about me being there. So when I saw you passed out on the ground your Alpha told me what happened and I took you to this little clearing to the south of your pack's. Your pack wasn't happy about me taking you, but I sure wasn't letting you out of my sight again." his eyes capture mine, and I can't look away.

Noah is the type of man that should belong on the cover of a magazine and in the arms of some long legged model. With his thick wavy hair, tan skin, piercing eyes, and light link lips..... my wolf purrs again and I scold myself for letting my thoughts wander.

"I'm sorry about your father." He finally whispers. I suck in a sharp breath and close my eyes. I haven't cried over my father in years, I finally convinced myself that tears wouldn't help anything, but fighting will.
"How did you know?" I ask after I remember I hadn't told him.
"Blake told me."

I nod
"It happened a long time ago. Now why did Jonathan go into a coma, he was just bit?" I open my eyes again and meet Noah's fierce gaze.

He sighs before beginning, "Where we the from, there is this type of plant that we eventually adapted to eating, but what we didn't know is that it entered our blood stream and altered how our bodies worked. It caused or teeth and claws to become poisonous more of less. Just by being pierced by something with the poison, you go into a coma and in 2 weeks you die." He drops his arms back to his sides and starts pacing the small clearing. "Even the people in our pack fall prey to the poison unless it is their mate, we don't know why, but we think it is the intent to harm that triggers the poison. So since a mate would never hurt another, and the mark they give each others aren't meant for harm, the poison doesn't work. But many year ago, two young wolves got into a fight , and one walked away with a gash in his shoulder. Now at that time their happened to be a very old lone she-wolf traveling in our territory. She came to us and said the only thing that can save us was silver. We thought she was crazy at first, because as everyone knows silver will kill us just ad quickly as poison. But as the boys condition worsened we tried it. Nothing worked it only caused him more pain, so when we went to ask what she meant she said we have to travel far and wide to find Silver, and then she left." He glances at me when he pauses in his speaking. And a new sense of dread settles in me.

It was her.
It had to be, it was her and she was talking about me.
