Annika POV      *edited*

"Come on, pick up!!"

"Hi this is Luke, sorry I am unavailable right now."

"God Damnit, Luke! This is the sixth fucking time this week!"

I throw my phone onto my bed and let out a sigh of frustration. Did I do something wrong?

Luke and I have been best friends for as long as either of us could remember, and we have never gotten in a fight. We haven't gone a week without hanging out together; so why has he been blowing me off all of a sudden?

That's it, I decided. I'll call him one more time and if he doesn't pick up I am going to his house and confronting him.

Pressing his contact I rhythmically tap my foot on the floor as I wait for the inevitable sound of his voicemail to come through. Instead I am pleasantly surprised to hear his smooth voice answer the phone.

"Hey Anni, is it important? I am a bit busy right now..."

My mouth dropped open in shock. Hurt and anger flooded through me.  "What the hell, Luke! Why have you been ignoring my calls and texts for the past week?"

The anger in my tone was ruined by the crack of my voice in the end. Damn it, I swore I wasn't going to get emotional.

"Anni..." Luke's voice trailed off, guilt colouring his tone.

"No, Luke. I deserve an explanation! I thought we told each other everything? When did that change? Did I do something wrong?" The hand clutching my phone tightened considerably as the questions flew out of my mouth uncontrollably.

Luke's answer echoed out the phone but I was only paying half attention, too preoccupied trying to regain control of my emotions. "No, no, Anni. I swear, I've just been busy!!"

"Busy? Busy with what? I haven't seen you all week and I feel like I am losing my best friend!". I can't help but cringe at how clingy and co-dependent I sound. Probably one of the reasons why he is ignoring me to be honest, my subconscious tells me.

In the background of the phone call I could hear shouts and the sounds of people laughing. "Who are you with, Luke? What aren't you telling me?"

"It's nothing, Anni, I swear!"

"Bullshit, Luke! I asked you a question, so don't avoid it! What. Aren't. You. Telling. Me?"

"Fine, fine, I'll tell you..." He eventually surrenders.

"Tell me what, Luke? Just spit it out already!"

"Anni, I've started a band..."
