Chapter Thirty Five

Anni POV

"Megan, please! I swear I meant to tell you I just forgot!" I yelled after she walked away from me. She didn't bother turning around, just kept walking. I let out a groan of frustration at her childish antics.

"Megan you're being immature about this!" I yelled. Megan stopped in her tracks and slowly turned to look back at me. Her face was black with fury; I had never seen her this angry before.

"I'm being immature about this!?" She yelled in outrage. "What's immature is the fact that you didn't tell me, your best friend, that you had a fucking boyfriend for days! I thought friendship meant that we tell each other everything!"

My face contorted in pain. I don't think she realised how much those words connected to me. It was true though; she told me everything about her past yet here I was, lying, day in day out.

"I'm sorry!" I cried out, throwing my hands in the air. Wait, here I was, apologising about lying to her, lying about the reason why I was apologising to her. Megan scoffed at my lame comeback. Turning on her heel, she starts to walk away from me.

"Megan, wait! It was just easier to tell people we were official but we weren't actually until lunchtime! Do you really think I wouldn't tell you of all people, my best friend, that I had a boyfriend? Surely you know better than that Megan."

Megan looks at me with distaste. "Go lie to someone that will actually believe you, Annika." She says, before turning and walking to her next class.

I stood there shellshocked. We hadn't fought like this before. That's the thing with Megan, she overreacts. She thinks I lied to her, so when I told the truth, she didn't believe me.

I groan in frustration and finally make my way to my next class, over 10 minutes late. I slam the door open of the classroom, walking in and taking my seat like I hadn't just walked in late.

"Miss Evans, what do you think you're doing?! You're late to class by over ten minutes!" My geography teacher says.

I dismissively wave her off. She was too much of a pushover do anything anyway.

For the rest the period, I didn't take any notes or do any work. I just laid my head down on the desk and tried not to cry.

---

'Calum, stop taking photos of me!" I yell, slamming my hand down to the table. The entire table falls silent at my sudden outburst. I had remained quiet the entire lunch; this was the first time I'd spoken since my shouting match with Megan.

"Sorry, Anni." He mumbled. I let out a sigh, and slowly rose from the table.

"I'm just gonna go outside for a bit." I mumbled, picking up my bag. I walk away from the table which is still sitting in silence.

Luke POV

"Okay, what the fuck was that about?" I say, looking around the table. Calum shrugs his shoulders mutely. I don't think he realised that Anni could snap at him like that.

Glancing around the table, I see everyone is looking towards the still retreating figure of Anni. All except Mikey and Megan.

Mikey seemed to be whispering harshly in Megan's ear. Megan was scowling at whatever Mikey was saying, and stood up as well. Pulling Mikey up with her, she strides away from the table.

The remaining of us all looked at each other in confusion.

The rest of lunch was spent in silence after that.
