Chapter Forty One
Anni POV
“Why did I have to come?!” Declan whined as I pulled into the hospital parking lot. Yanking up the handbrake I answer him,
"Because, I couldn’t leave you at home by yourself, Mum would be out for my head otherwise.”
“But what am I meant to do while you talk to Megan?” Declan asks, unclipping his seatbelt. I follow his actions,
“Luke and Cal are here, you can follow them around. They probably won’t care.” Declan immediately brightens,
“Will Mikey be there as well?” I nod my head,
“Yeah, and Ashton as well probably.”
“Sweet!”
“Yeah, sure, just don’t go anywhere without telling me and don’t annoy the boys, okay?” I tell him sternly as we walk through the doors to the lobby. The lobby to the hospital is packed with people waiting to be treated, family members waiting for news and visitors leaving. Ugh, I hated hospitals.
Declan nods his head at my instructions, and as we approach the front reception desk he can barely contain his excitement, jumping up and down. Looking at the bored reception lady who was blowing gum annoyingly loud, I attempt to speak over the excited noises of Declan,
“Hi, yeah, we are looking for- Declan, cut it out for second, alright! Sorry about that. We are looking for Megan Gillies? She was admitted last night?”
The lady doesn’t bother to reply, already too busy typing away on her computer. She pops her gum three more times before she looks back up.
“She is on the third level, you’re gonna have to ask the reception desk up there for the room number.” She drones monotonously.
“Thanks.”
“Have a nice day.” She dismisses. Rolling my eyes, I push off of the counter and make my way to the elevators, Declan shadowing me closely.
“Where’s Calum and Luke?” He whined.
“Declan, shut up, they’re probably up on the level Megan’s on. Can you just chill out for a second?” I snap. My stress levels were high enough already without him adding to it. Eventually the elevator came, and after what felt like an eternity of travelling up, we reach level three.
The doors open with a ding and Declan and I exit. Walking through the level I realise that it is much less busy than the lobby. Just a few doctors and nurses as well as visitors were walking around. I reach the reception desk and the nurse at the station looks up at me, a small smile gracing her features.
“How can I help you today?” She chirps. I smile at her and tell her Megan’s name. Nodding her head she types away at the computer,
“Oh, that’s right, she got admitted last night, didn’t she?” The nurses chats easily. I nod my head and fiddle with my car keys. The nurse taps away for a few more seconds before she tells me the room number,
“Megan is in the left wing, room 374, dear.”
I nod my head graciously and yank Declan along behind me. We wander the halls for a few minutes, and I almost think I’ve gotten Declan and I lost until I round a corner and spot Aimee and Ashton standing, talking seriously.
They don’t notice me at all as I walk towards them, but it is Declan yelling out that catches both of their attentions.
“Ash!” He calls, sprinting ahead of me. Ashton barely has time to look before he is caught in a hug from him.
