Chapter Twenty Seven

Anni POV

*New Year's Eve*

New Year's Eve. What a time to be alive. Booze, Lights, and Music. God, the music was so loud, and it was only going to get louder as the night went on. As my body swayed to the beat of another unidentifiable dubstep song playing, I thought over what had lead me to be hosting my first ever house party.

After the day at the beach, everyone had decided that we needed to have a New Year's party, and to have a bunch of people from our school over, get shit-faced drunk and start the new year off with a bang. So that's what we did.

Somehow I had managed to convince my parents to let me host it, and ba-da-bing ba-da-boom, we were having what would be known as the party of the year in my house. My parents had decided that it would be best to be out of the house for the party, doing their best to ignore the fact that there was surely going to be underage drinking going on.

I raised my hands above my head, a plastic cup gripped in one hand and Megan's hand in the other. We both laughed and continued to sway as the beat pumped through the air. We had practically removed all the furniture from the lounge room, a make-shift dance-floor now in its place.

The make-shift dance floor was packed with everyone from the grade twelves, to people in the year below us. Somehow the word spread through social media, and people decided to just turn up, making it that much better.

I think Mikey was the reason for that, just saying.

After an unmeasurable amount of shitty bass-drop songs later, we both decided that our cups needed refilling, and we needed to find either the other girls or boys. As we made our way to the kitchen we heard a random grade twelve, whose name we did not know, yell out that there was only half an hour to midnight.

At that everyone cheered again, and continued to dance. As we entered the kitchen, I yell to Megan with a hoarse voice,

"Holy shit, Megan, I can't believe this is even happening!' Megan nods her head in agreement,

"This is like something from a fricking movie!" And even though she yells it at me, I can barely catch her words over pounding bassline. Megan says something else that I don't catch, I scream at her to repeat it. Rolling her eyes she pulls my head down so she can yell in my ear,

"I'm going to find Mike! Are you going to be fine alone?" I nod my head, and wave her off,

"Go find your man! Have fun, but not too much fun!" I yell as she turns away from me. She must have heard my last comment because without turning around she gives me the bird. I let out a laugh and go to refill my drink.

I open the fridge and grab a bottle of water, deciding to try and stay at least a little bit coherent. I shut the fridge and jump back in surprise to see a very relaxed Luke standing there. He gives me a lazy smile and a wave.

"Hey Luke, what's happening?" I chuckle, snapping the seal on the water with a crack. He simply smiles at me again, and slurs,

"I'm having fun! What does it look like?" I shake my head at his apparent drunkness,

"How much have you had to drink, Lucas?" Luke looks down, and using his fingers apparently counts the number of drinks he's had. Holding up his hand I see that only three fingers held up.

"Three beers?! Luke, are you seriously that drunk after only three beers? God, you really are a light-weight, aren't you?" I exclaim. Luke frowns, and attempts to defend himself,
