Chapter Eighteen

Just by watching the way she closed her eyes, and raised her arms up and was swinging them around like the lunatic she was, I knew I had found the girl I desperately wanted to be with. Forever.

I just hoped she felt the same.

Calum POV

The final chords for Try Hard faded out, and I readjusted my guitar strap. All the boys seemed distracted momentarily by Megan, who seemed to be going crazy right in front of the stage. To be fair, she wasn't the only one, following Megan's eccentric lead, a small group of girls that had come to the gig approached as well. Already after one gig, we seemed to have a small fan base. Awesome.

I took the moment of distraction for granted because before long, Luke had announced the title for the new song, and we were playing the intro chords to it. 'Gotta Get Out' was the first song I'd written and taken seriously, I wrote it soon after the boys joined and officially became 5 Seconds of Summer.

I nod my head, waiting for the moment I come into the song. When I do, I shut my eyes and imagine I am just practising the song alone. It helps with the nerves, or at least I tell myself it does.

Anni POV

"Even when the sky is falling down,

Even when the earth is crumbling 'round my feet"

I hear Luke's voice open the song, letting the slight husk in his voice come through. But I am then surprised to hear Calum's voice come through the speakers, I don't know why I was surprised though; he was the one that wrote this song, he should be expected to sing some of it. With Michael and Luke harmonizing in the background he sings,

"Even when we try to say goodbye,

You can cut the tension with a knife in here.

Cause I know what'll happen, if we get through this."

His voice is heavenly, so clear and sweet, and the small lisp when he sang made my heart flutter. My gaze travels up to Calum, but he isn't looking at me. Or anyone, actually. His eyes are shut and I can feel the emotions travelling off him in waves. He seems to be channelling all his emotions in the lyrics, almost as if he was singing to someone.

Even though I know that probably isn't the case, I can't help but feel the green-eyed monster rise within me. I frown but my unnecessary jealousy travels to the back of my mind when they continue the song.

"And if the earth ends up,

Crumbling down to its knees, and baby,

We just gotta' get out, we just gotta' get out.

And if the skyscrapers tumble down, and crash around,

And baby,

We just gotta' get out, we just gotta get out."

I am amazed, this was the song Calum wrote. I was more than amazed actually, I was gobsmacked. Anyone at the age of 15 that writes their own songs and they're that good, deserved to be recognised for it. I almost forget they are performing it when Calum's voice rings out through the club again as he opens up the second verse.

"Cause I feel so damn lost.

And it comes with a cost,

Of being alone."

All the boys join in suddenly, and I can see past the boys back to Ashton who seemed to be joining in lowly, trying not to be heard.

"Everything is falling down,
