Chapter Seven
“Welcome to Norwest Christian College”
Anni POV
“Arghh, God get me out of here!” Megan groans, pressing her fingers to her temples before slamming her head into Aimee’s locker, which is conveniently, right next to mine. I stare at Megan, amused by her reaction to her previous class, science. Aimee and I just stare at her until she stops hitting her head. Pulling back she looks at us, with a blooming red mark across her forehead and moans,
“I need to eat away my hatred towards school, let’s go already!”
I chuckle and Aimee looks at me in confusion, I shrug and follow after Megan who has started skipping down the halls to the school lunch canteen.
“Is she always like this?” Aimee queries
“If you mean, hyper, hungry and bipolar, then yes, always.” I chortle
Megan bounds back towards them, her arms already bursting with food.
“I bought everyone food, because you know I am just that- Mikey!” she screams
I spin around to be scared by the presence of Michael and Calum. Michael stood looking at ease with his tie hanging loosely around his neck with his top button un-done, ignoring the looks of displeasure from the teachers. I was guessing that he was past the point of caring.
Calum was wearing his uniform with a little bit more school pride, his shirt was only half untucked and his button done up. But his tie was still hanging loose and the sleeves to his blazer were pushed up past his elbows. He hung back slightly, standing partially behind Michael.
“Let’s go sit down, yeah?” I suggested, after I tore my eyes away from Calum. Since when did I find it hard to stop looking at Calum?
Other than Ashton, who went to school somewhere else; there was someone else missing. Luke.
As the group of five walked towards the tables that sat in the corner of the grade 10 area, I began to tune out what everyone was saying, except for Megan and Michael who were walking next to me.
“Where’s Luke, he usually hangs out with us or you guys, doesn’t he?”
Michael shrugs, and I cringe at his reply,
“He hasn’t been hanging around any of us all of today, he just seemed really… out of it, I guess. Like, he was really upset or frustrated…”
Plonking down onto the table, I placed my hands in my lap and stared ahead, beginning to get lost in my thoughts of Luke.
Was he upset because of me?
Was he still angry at me because of the whole ‘nearly hooking up with Ashton’ thing or was he just not hanging out with me anymore?
Were we even friends anymore?
---
I let out a frustrated sigh and pulled my hands up to my face, trying to hide my eyes which were brimming with tears. I looked around, as someone pulled me from my depressing thoughts. Seeing I had begun to pay attention again, Aimee removed her hand from in front of my face.
“Are you alright? You have been quiet for, like, 15 minutes now.”
I exhaled noisily again.
“I guess, just thinking about Luke, ya know?”
“I’m sure you guys will resolve it, you’ve been friends for too long to give up on each other now.”
I had told Aimee on the way to school today what had happened this past weekend. Her and Megan had been extremely sympathetic towards me. I wasn’t looking for sympathy though, I was looking for answers on how to fix my situation with Luke. I’m just going to have to talk to him, my brain concluded.
