idk if u watch futurama but there's this scene where kif is like SO in love with amy, but every time he calls her, he loses all confidence and just ends up breathing/sputtering into the phone before hanging up and it's so endearing and if you could do that with kylo i would give u my soul

Kylo had this overwhelming lack in self confidence. Well, not entirely, only when it came to you. Wasn't like you belittled him or anything of that matter that would purposefully dwindle his confidence... it was just the simple fact that you were you and he was him and he never thought for a million years he'd have a chance with you.

Unlike the others he's ever date—or had relationships with you—where confidence was natural to him, almost like a middle name, he couldn't seem to have that with you.

And the funny thing was, he had known you for quite some time now.

You were the bosses granddaughter—at least, his ex boss, that is. Before he started working under First Order Inc. a few years back. He had seen you quite often, you usually worked around the higher ups being an intern as your grandmother took you under her wing. And he had worked directly under your grandmother.

The two of you knew of eachother, but not enough. At least, you didn't know much about him. Not enough to fill the emptiness in your mind if your thoughts ever went to mister Kylo Ren. But, that didn't mean you had no idea who he was. You knew who he was, very much. Just, not enough.

On the other hand, Kylo knew a lot about you. Solely because he asked others about you and did his own 'research'. In someways, it seemed creepy, but that wasn't his intention. He was just so infatuated by you.

You were so beautiful, inside and out. You stood out in a crowd. He believed you to be like a flower. So bright and a lovely sight to see. He always had a hint of a crush on you but knew there was no chance he could date the bosses granddaughter.

But, time progressed, he left the company for something more and... well, he still had that lack of confidence.

It had been a few years since he had left Resistance Inc. and it had been a few years since he told himself he'd try winning you ever.

A few years of him lying to himself.

And, a few years worth of trying to convince himself that he could do it. That he could finally talk to you, go on a few dates, and win your heart.

But, where did he now find himself?

Lying on his bed in his dimly lit room by a single lamp he turned on, nibbling on his thumb as he heard his phone ring in his ear.

He was nervous, to say the last. Every time he mustered the confidence he needed to speak to you, he always lost it. Always. And it never failed him. Just by the sound of your sweet voice saying hello already shut him down. His mind going into its darkest pits of self doubt.

"Hello?" Your voice spoke, the soft sound sending chills down his spine as he lied there with wide eyes. "Hello?" You repeated, but Kylo's throat got caught. It locked on him. His breathing was heavy and his heart was racing.
