✮ WHAT IS YOUR SPEECH ABOUT?
Is it motivational, inspirational, informative? What is the goal of this speech? You need to identify this first.
✮ WHO IS YOUR AUDIENCE?
Make sure you also identify this. You want to make the speech appropriate for the audience.
✮ HAVE AN EAR-CATCHING OPENER
Don't just jump right into it. Open the speech in a way that catches attention. Here are some suggestions:
+ a burning question
+ a quote
+ a memory
+ a lesson
✮ INCLUDE FAMOUS QUOTES
If you're writing a motivational or inspirational speech, and you need to fill it up a little, add some of your favorite, FITTING inspirational quotes. Then you can move on to talk about the quote, explain it, if you want.
✮ USE HAND GESTURES & MAKE EYE CONTACT
You can still look down at your notes or papers, but have the speech known enough so you can make lots of eye-contact. This makes the audience feel more connected to the speaker.
Also, make hand gestures. It makes you look less nervous, and more involved.
✮ BE LENIENT
Your written speech doesn't have to be exactly what you're going to say. Have a little fun with it, give yourself some space to roam.
✮ CLOSE IT STRONG
Make it clear that the speech is coming to a close. Don't leave anyone hanging.
