"The top forty two earned the right to advance!" Midnight's voice faded away as a background noise; your brain still processing what Monoma confronted to you about. 'You've already proved yourself to others a long time ago', that phrase has been lingering around your mind lately, and you knew what he was talking about. Because you were placed on Class 1-A, your image to the world was known to be superior-- a title that receives grand recognition.
You would've thought that Monoma was being shallow and irrational with his argument with you, but a part of you kind of understood what he was going on about. He has expectant parents, and that wasn't helpful with his inferiority complex issue. They would pick on him for the tiniest things-- from his appearance, mannerisms, and his accomplishments, as he would tell you in-between breaks back from your training. When you disguised yourself as a Class C student, he easily opened up to you and could be vulnerable when talking to you-- he was practically exposed. He thought you were on the same level as him; that you two had the same goals of making the world know you're there. But then... What if you didn't lie about your Class rank?
Would he still choose to be friends with you? Or would he let his inferiority complex take over, which would result for him to be resentful towards you?
"Behold! The Human Cavalry Battle! With each student worth their position from the obstacle race. Like how the last placer would worth forty two points, and so on and so forth, but the first placer is worth ten million points!" At the sudden exclamation and the drop of the friendly atmosphere, you were snapped out of your thoughts, only to realize that Midnight was still talking, and the fact that every student's gaze is affixed on a certain greenette. You wouldn't be surprised. With that ridiculous amount of points, everyone would be ought to get Midoriya. "You can group yourselves into four to five members; so, choose your team wisely!" With the crack of the R-rated hero's whip, her announcement came to an end, as to while the ten minutes to search for your group started.
Despite knowing the consequence of joining Izuku's team, you decided to risk it and walked towards his shaken position. But before you could even reach the freckled boy, a hand made its way on your shoulder, successfully halting you from your intention.
"I wouldn't recommend joining him." A bored voice drawled out, right before you faced its owner.
"He's my friend. Why shouldn't I?" You asked, an eyebrow raised to exaggerate your inquiry at the indigo-haired boy, Shinsou.
"Are you stupid? Everyone would be chasing after him, rendering your chances of winning slim and unclear. It's best if you join teams that do not have much attention, making you unpredictable and at the very best, unnoticed." You know what he was implying with his choice of words, although his reason was quite valid. "Better yet, you should join my team." He was quite straightforward with his purpose—rather blunt, but you considered his suggestion.
"B-but I can't just-- he's my friend and, uh..."
"Aren't I your friend?"
"Hey! You don't get to pull that card on me right now!"
"Pfsh, whatever. Just saying that we both have better chances at winning if we team up together." You then thought about it.
But what about Midoriya? He'd ought to be looking for teammates to work with, because so far as you've observed, almost everyone was avoiding him except for Uraraka. You were torn, and couldn't decide which friend you should help. You wanted to join Midoriya as an unspoken duty of a childhood friend, but you also wanted to join Shinsou since he was also having difficulties on having people join his team.
