The Invitation

At first, I couldn't believe that Evan was actually there. The reason was pretty obvious. I had lost hope of someone being by my side and standing up for me. I had never felt anything like this. Seeing him speak for me was making me feel special.

"Whoever you are, I think you don't get it. She probably ignores you because she knows that talking to you is a waste of time. Maybe even I wouldn't like to talk to someone like you. Don't you have a heart? You're probably one of the many people who bully her. I just hope that someday, instead of bullying her, you spend time thinking of her situation. Iris could've complained to the teacher. But what did she do? She smiled. I really hope that someday, instead of raising your hand for her, you''ll raise your voice for her just like I did."

Seeing him speak for me, I could also see that he meant everything he said. It was as if he had known me for years and could understand the pain I suffered from. I looked at him and smiled.

"As if I care..." was what Serene said before she left.

"Hey, are you alright?" Asked Evan.

I smiled and nodded. I felt grateful for having someone with whom I didn't have to put a fake smile on. His face expressions showed that he wanted to say something so I handed him my notebook. I handed him the pen and he started writing down.

"So, we're friends. Right?"

"Yeah :) And thanks for speaking up for me. It was as if you were reading my mind and framing all the thoughts into sentences!"

"No need to say thanks :) By the way, what are your hobbies?"

"Reading books and writing stories. What about yours?"

"I love writing poems and singing. Could I read your stories some day?"

"Yeah sure! Only if you let me read your poems XD What about your favorite song?"

"Say You Won't Let Go by James Arthur. I've always wanted to sing it with live piano or guitar but never did. The lunch break is about to end. I'll talk later! Bye :)" Writing this, he went back to his seat. The rest of the day went normal. Thanks to Evan, no one bullied me that day. Soon, the bell rang and all of us started to head for our homes. As I stepped outside the class, someone poked me. It was Evan.

"Mind if we walk together?"

"Sure!"

I kept on reading his lips while he spoke. "Are you free tomorrow? It's my birthday!"

I had never gone to a friend's birthday party since I was little. Even though it was something new, I decided to say yes. We talked a little and after sometime, I reached my home.

"Hey, is it alright if we walk together everyday?"

A smile appeared on my face.

"Of course we can!" I said as he read my lips. I waved at him, saying bye and went inside. Even before I realized anything, my sister came running towards me.

"Hey sis! I saw you with that cute guy! Who is he?"

"Just a friend.."

I didn't want to talk more. What I wanted to do that time was check out the song Evan loved so much. And so, I searched on YouTube.

"Say You Won't Let Go lyrics"

Although I couldn't hear the singer's voice, every word touched my heart. I wanted to sing it but didn't know the tune. But even so, I kept on replaying the song. After sometime, a thought came into my mind and I searched again.

"Say You Won't Let Go Piano Tutorial"

My sister actually plays piano so we have one. I took my laptop to the room where the piano was and started playing. It was pretty easy for me and took some hours of practice to learn it. And so, a new wish was added to my list. That was the wish of listening to Evan singing this song.
