Ruby

Cameron dropped me off home, but throughout the car ride it was dead silent, not a word was spoken. It wasn't even a comfortable silence; it was the kind of silence where a boy tells you his ex-girlfriend is dead kind. Yeah the fun type.

At this moment in time I was sitting on my bed, contemplating what I just learnt. Lucas, Cameron and this Samantha were in a love triangle.

Lucas, if only you can hear me I want you to know that she fucked you up so badly, emotionally and mentally that you've completely changed. You break girl's hearts to repair yours. How is that fair?

How is it fair, girls go home crying alone and you run straight to any football games and parties around to help? I think you've done enough damage to heal the damage inside yourself.

You made a bet to see if Jason can break my heart; you knew he was an arse, you made sure I fell for him, but you want to know something he wasn't even there to catch me.

Worst of all, he made me trust him. He made me think that he was nothing like people like you. And you know what? He was right, he wasn't like the others, he was so much worse...

Or maybe he just had a good teacher.

I sighed, feeling the stinging sensation in my heart again. I covered my face with my arm sighing. I closed my eyes for a split second, but what is worse was my reality turned into a nightmare...

I woke up to a set of screams, mom and dad shouting, crying for help. "Sweetie get up! Ruby!" I was awakened by my mother shaking me, "Wh-what is happening?" She just shook her head.

Rushing out of my room, I followed her instantly slipping through the hallway only to be slapped in the face with smoke. I opened my mouth to cough, big mistake. "Ruby where are you?" I shook my head rushing downstairs to see Mrs. Jackson, mom and dad all standing in a line.

"Guys hurry!" I went to pull them away, but my dad pushed me making me hit the ground rather hard, sneering he pushed my mother and Mrs. Jackson into the pit of flames. The fire itself founds it way around both of them. Drinking them in almost how an alcoholic would with their glasses. There was no hesitation.

My father walked towards me as I coughed the smoke became too much, "Now you'll know what it is like for everyone to leave." When he said that, the fire engulfed him too.

I screamed out, "NO!" Putting my hand out, but it was no use. As I screamed out the thick black smoke found its way down my throat and danced around my lungs, filling up. I struggled to find my breath.

Is this what death feels like?

"Ruby." I snapped my head around to see Lucas, "Lucas? You ne-need to leave." He shook his head, "Wake up."

"What?" He got closer, "Wake up Ruby." I squinted my eyes, "Wake up, wake up, wake up." That is all he is repeating.

I held my hands to my ears, screaming.

I shot my eyes open, drenched with sweat, "Ruby?" Mrs. Jackson? "Wh-what happened?" She removed a piece of hair from my hair, "You were screaming, then started to shout out 'Lucas', who's Lucas?"

I went to open my mouth, but I closed it, what do I tell her?

"Lucas... Lucas is just a person who I know. Nothing else." She drew her lips into a thin line, "Sure?" I nodded, so did she.
