Ruby

Lia and I were walking to school, sweating like anything. Honestly why does it have to be the hottest day of the year and we must go to school.

"Hey so Ruby, you going to speak to Lucas today?" That's when my heart sunk. "Lia, i-I don't know. I don't want to get my hopes up, for then my heart to be shattered once again."

She hummed in response. "I see, but wouldn't it be best to know than not?" I fiddled with my sleeve, "I don't-"

"Oh, come on Ruby!" I huffed, "Fine! I will speak to him, in private, at break."

She hugged me and ruffled my hair. Before I could moan at her for doing that, the school bell went indicating we need to get to lesson.

"Let hell blow over..." I rolled my eyes.

We were both walking down the corridor, when I was pushed "Hey!" I spun around to see the person who nudged me, "Jason..." I managed to get out.

"Well hello doll face." He had a sinister smile planted on his face. My mouth was slightly open, lost of words. "Bro! come on." I turned my eyes slightly to see Lucas and Olivia.

Well Lucas and Olivia clung to him.

Lucas walked up to Jason and did that bro hug thing whilst Olivia just stared at me. I gulped.

"May we help you?" I looked confused at Jason as I didn't see his mouth move, only it wasn't him, it was Lucas.

"Excuse me?" He rolled his eyes, "I think you heard what I said Red."

I went to open my mouth, but I quickly shut it, letting someone else interrupt me.

"Sweetie, lets go. I don't even know why you would even talk to her. Seriously, it is bad enough you breath the same air as her."

My eyes started to sting, so I nodded my head whilst licking my lips. Laughing slightly. "You just don't know when to stop Olivia, do you?"

She raised a brow at me, "You just keep pushing and pushing until one day you want me to explode. In case you forgot I stood by your side. I didn't walk away, you pushed me away. I was there for you even when you weren't there for me, and I'm sick of you treating me like I wasn't part of your life." I laughed slightly, slowly walking away.

"You know what Olivia, I'm done. Done with your shit, done with your pushing, done with it all. You won. Congrats."

I didn't even think twice about looking back, I just carried on down the corridor to first period.

First period ended, and no one said a word only a few whispers every now and then. Now it is break meaning I need to speak to Lucas. Yay!

"You can do this Rub, I promise everything will be okay." I hesitantly smiled.

"In case you forgot I did slash Olivia." She shrugged, "Why would that be a bother?" I shrugged, not really knowing the answer to that.

"Well there he is." Lia slightly pointed to him laughing with Olivia against a wall. I cleared my throat and walked to him.

This is not a promising idea.

"Lucas, can I speak to you please?" He turned around, arms crossed not looking impressed.

Raising a brow, I cleared my throat, "Alone." He shrugged, kind of pushing Olivia away.

She slammed her foot on the floor, storming away.

I rubbed my hands together feeling them becoming clammy. "What is it?"

"I-I don't know how to put this." Gosh why am I so scared.

"Do yo-" He groaned, "Spit it out!"

I flinched from the sudden voice change, "Do you love me?"

There was silence, a long silence. Not a good silence.

My heart was racing quicker than it should, I looked up only to see him smirking.

Then that smirking turn into a laughter. Everyone turned their attention to us. "Yo-you think i-I lo-love you!" He said with laughter following.

Soon everyone started to laugh, and I started to panic. Everything felt consuming. Their laughter's filling up my head.

I held my ears to try and stop the noise, but nothing worked. "Stop! Just stop!"

"Ruby!"

"RUBY!"

I flung my eyes open, quickly sitting up. I looked around to see I'm in my room. I wiped my forehead to feel it drenched in sweat. My breathing picked up.

"What the?" I tried to steady my breathing, "Ruby?" I turned my head to the side to see a worried Lia by my side.

"Are you okay?" I flickered my eyes, "yea... I don't know." My eyes started to sting, to the point where one tear rolled down my cheek. "No, I'm not okay." I shook my head and broke down in tears.

She denies it.

But truth is, she's falling in love with him.

"What happened?" I closed my eyes, "Lucas, I-I think I'm falling for him."

Lia pulled me away, "Yo-you what?"

"I think I'm falling in love with Lucas King."

We were walking to school, and I explained to Lia about the nightmare/dream and she couldn't comprehend why that happened.

Well to be honest neither could I.

"Lia, it scares me. it scares me how fast I'm falling for him. I can't fall for him."

She sighed, "Look Ruby listen, it will be okay. I'm with you, I will always be with you every step of the way."

"But Lia, I'm scared to fall in love. My dad is verbally abusive, he cheated on my mom multiple times - we'll still does, and he is very cruel towards me. The idea of dating someone scares me because I'm afraid I'll end up with someone like him."

I looked at her my eyes swelling with tears, "I don't want that."

She stayed silent, which I was grateful for, as she knows I don't want any sympathy.

"Right, let's get to first period then we can go out afterwards okay?" I hesitated for a bit due to my dad, "Sure." She smiled, dragging me in to school.

Let the day begin.
