Ruby

"What are you doing here?" We both said in unison.

Mrs. Jackson whispered in my ear, "I will wait by the car, don't be long." She kissed my cheek leaving me with the devil himself.

I crossed my arms, "Is this a sick game as well? To follow me and make a joke about my mom to then tell the school?" I walked closer to him, "Have you come to gloat about your perfect family?"

It seemed like he was lost for words, "N-no, I haven't."

"Then what are you doing here?!" I waved my hands up letting them slap my sides. "Actually, don't tell me, I don't care." With that I walked away.

But what made me stop with a jolt is what he said; "I've come for my sister actually." I turned around slowly, "I-i... "

"-Save it Jenson." I put my head down sighing, walking away. "Is that what you really think about me?"

I furrowed my brows, "Yes. Yes, I do."

"Why?" I scoffed, "Why? Why? Well have you gone brain dead for the past few weeks. My life has been a living hell Lucas and that is all thanks to you. So, I'm surprised you didn't follow me to make the last bit of your game the winning kill."

He titled his head to the side, he sighed. Lucas was just about to open his mouth, "-Save it King." I mimicked his words.

"You know what? No, you don't get to walk away." He grabbed my arm, but before he did that he planted the roses somewhere safe. I assumed they were for his sister.

"And why can't I do that? Lucas it is almost 4:00 am in the morning! Don't." He scoffed and shook his head, "Not until you hear my side of the story."

"What's there to tell Lucas?! You have your perfect life – yes, your sister may be in here but for you and your family you have the money to simply help her. I barely have enough to help my mom let alone pay for my father's funeral!"

I breathed out. Almost panting. "And that's where you are wrong. Wrong about me, wrong about my family. You know nothing." He sneered.

"I think I know enough." He crossed his arms, "Then tell me, exactly what you know."

"I know you, your reputation - you simply only seem to care about that. I know your games, your little mind tricks, and I know your scared." He furrowed his brows.

"Scared? Scared of what exactly?" He laughed dryly.

"Scared to admit the truth. Scared to admit you hate – no wait despise the lime light. You despise people knowing things about you. You despise letting your emotions show the real you."

"Lucas I'm not stupid anymore – I was told today, why give love where you do not receive it? And now I realise, it is because you're petrified of people knowing the real Lucas King and not this stupid façade he puts on to prove a point to society in needing to be popular."

"All you are doing is hurting yourself Lucas, then putting that pain onto others – others like me." I shrugged, "You still chose to be this person then so be, but sooner or later the truth will come out. It always does."

I shook my head, leaving him standing in the hallway of the hospital, walking out the doors I was met with Mrs. Jackson, "You alright dear?"

I sighed, "I'm okay." She looked a bit unsure but never bothered to question it further. Which I was thankful for.

"Let's get you home." I sighed, "I don't know what that is anymore." I whispered so silently.

Omniscient

Lucas sighed as he watched Ruby walk out the revolving double doors. Turning back, he picked the bouquet roses back up and slowly making his way to room 300.

Every room he came past, he stared through – laughter from the patients, trying to be happy, but some probably wouldn't last so they are making the most of it.

Families surround loved ones, even Lucas felt the love from these strangers. He came to a jolt, there it was room 300. Taking a deep breath, he walked through, and to his surprise everything stayed the same.

A machine still beeping, wires still attached to his sister – who laid lifeless on the bed. A tube found its way into her throat, pumping oxygen into her lungs.

Rushing to her side, taking her hand into his. "I'm sorry Evangeline, I just don't know what to do anymore. I wished I was there with you, but I wasn't. I wished I could reverse time and change everything bad and turn it into good."

"I wish you never went out that night, otherwise that drunken old man would have never hit you." Lucas slowly brought her hand to his cold, dry lips. "I'm sorry Evie." Ever so softly Lucas started to sob.

Just like Ruby, she laid her head onto the window, letting her tears follow the rain which raced down the window. Music softly playing in the background.

"Some days it's hard to see."

"If I was a fool or you a thief."

Closing her eyes, the tears were now torrent.

"Now you're just a page torn from the story I'm living."

"And all I gave you is gone."

"We are almost there dear, make sure you stay awake."

Ruby nodded at Mrs. Jackson.

"The scar I can't reverse."

"When the more it heals the worse it hurts."

For once Lucas let his emotions get the best of him, it felt like he had cried for days – when that wasn't the case. His sister is the only person who he can open up too. His parents? Well unfortunately they are constantly away, so he never sees them.

"Evie, if you can hear me, I need your help. I messed up big time. You see there this girl who has red hair, it is a very unusual colour. It is thick, luscious – if I was a girl I would have been jealous. When she blushes, her sweet chubby cheeks match her ruby red hair."

"I don't know how to tell her. She asked me a very specific question – it has something to do with love – she asked if I had feelings for her. I couldn't tell her, so I lied. I caused the whole school to rain hate upon her. I swear that wasn't my intention, but it just happened."

"Then there is this girl called Olivia – who is a living nightmare. She believes we are together when in fact we aren't and will never be. Constantly switching from me to Jason. She made Red cry – she made her to have her first heartbreak by sleeping with her ex-boyfriend. Crazy how they were best friends."

The boyfriend you created, by a stupid, stupid dare. It wasn't just Olivia, it was you too!

"I got mad jealous over the boys looking at Red, but I couldn't do anything except sit there and watch."

For example; punching Cameron. You just couldn't let Red be happy could you.

"I was horrible to her, I know that, but i-I didn't know how to speak to her without telling her."

Lucas squeezed his sisters hand, "I'm scared."

"I think I'm falling in love with her."
