At the other side of the small town was a little park. I unleashed Max so he could go crazy in the snow without pulling me along. I just sat down on a bench with the hot choco I bought along the way and watched him. After a while another dog joined him and I searched for the owner, confused as to where this dog suddenly came from. I thought I was alone here?
"Hey"
I jumped up and looked behind me. Only to see a guy of the same age laughing at me.
"Sorry, did I scare you?"
"You shouldn't sneak up to people like that!" I yelled.
"I didn't even hear you coming or anything"
"Guess you must've been lost in thoughts because I make a lot of noise coming through this snow" he laughed."I fell like 4 times"
"Wait? Really?"
"Yeah" he laughed and sat down beside me.
"So is that your dog?"
"Oh uhm yes, that's Max" I said and looked at the guy.
"What's yours called?"
"Chrissy" he said.
"My dad named her""Oh" I sighed and put my hands in my pockets. I was starting to feel the cold really good at this point...
"And what did he call you?"
"Nathan" he said.
"But everybody calls me Nate so"
"So Nate it is" I smiled."I'm Jason but everybody calls me Jace"
"Well, nice to meet you Jace" he said.
"You ain't from around, are you?"
"Just moved here" I said.
"Oh really? Cloverstreet or New Avenue?" he asked.
"Cloverstreet" I said.Emily wasn't lying when she said this was a small town. It looked like everybody knew where I lived just because I was new here. Back in the city we didn't had this kind of interaction between people. It was strange but also quite nice.
"What, no way, you live in my street" he laughed. What? Did everyone live in the same street or something?...
Nate and I talked untill it was afternoon. He showed me around town and we actually had quite a few things in common. Like our love for reading for example. That's why he brought me to the library at the end of our tour. Not that we were allowed with our dogs but still. I think Nate and I could really become good friends, surely after today. Right now we were walking back home together.
"This is my stop" he said and pointed to a house near by. Number 14.
"Wait, you live across Emily?" I said out loud.
"You know her?" he asked.
"Well, we met this morning" I said.
"I kinda saved her sisters life"
"What? Really?""Yeah, she was chasing a cat and wanted to run under a car for it" I explained.
"Ugh, stupid Snickers... Never liked that fur ball anyway" Nate complained.
"Is that cat so much trouble?" I asked laughing.
"You have no idea" he sighed.
"But anyway, I'll pick you up for school on Monday at 7:30, alright?""I thought you said it only takes ten minutes to get to school?" I asked confused.
"When you go with your bike and the roads are clear" Nate sighed.
"But here in Emelo we don't do salt. We don't know how to clear a simple road... So walking it is"
"Okay good, I'll be ready" I said.
"Great" he smiled and walked with Chrissy to his house while I crossed the street and walked to mine. When I got inside I threw my shoes off and unleashed Max.
"I'm back!" I yelled as I hung my coat away and walked to the living room. My dad was watching tv and mom was nowhere to be seen.
"You took a long walk" he commented.
"Yeah, I explored town a bit" I said and sat down as well.
"You know how big the library is here? It's huge!"He laughed a bit and shook his head.
"You and your obsession with books... I never got it"
"Where's mom?" I asked as I searched Nathan and Emily on Facebook and Instagram.
"We forgot something from the store" he said. More didn't need to be said and actually I should've known. My family is the most forgetful family in the enitre world. We constantly lose things because we don't remember where we placed it and that kind of stuff... It aren't very important things most of the time but sometimes they are. Like how my dad always loses his car keys and his phone wherever he goes. But no family is perfect right? Certainly not ours... Our small broken home...
I was pulled out of thought when Max decided it was a good idea to jump onto my lap, fully aware of the fact he wasn't allowed on the couch.
"Max!" I laughed and pushed him off me while he was trying to lick me. He always did that! I sighed and stood up so he fell off the couch.
"Not on the couch, you know that"He looked at me with those big puppy eyes but they didn't have any effect on me. He might get snacks from mom that way but he doesn't need to try that trick on me. Speaking about mom, she just came home.
"Oh Jace, you're back" she smiled.
"Did you get a good look around on your first day?"
"Yeah, it's not so bad here" I said, thinking about the people I already met.Thinking about them I checked my phone to see if they already accepted my friendrequests. Nate had accepted, Emily hadn't responded yet. Probably hadn't seen it yet...
"So what's for dinner?" I asked and looked at mom.
"Pasta" she answered and after that I went up to my room while Max followed me. I closed the door and jumped on my bed.I sighed as I opened the drawer of my nightstand next to my bed. A small brown notebook came out and I took my pen after that. This may look like what many people call a diary. It's not. It are letters. Letters that'll never be sent and never be read... I clicked my pen open and started to write.
Dear Jack
We moved today... Yeah we live in Emelo now. I'm not that happy about it but I wasn't happy in our old home either so... Well at least I've already met a few new people, I'm sure you noticed. Emily looks like a really nice girl and she's pretty to. Perfect girlfriend material as you would call it. I can still see that smug smile on your face whenever you said something like that. Her sister is cute to. A different kind of cute as you may have noticed but cute. Nate on the other hand... He's kinda handsome, not gonna lie about that. And I know what you would say, perfect boyfriend material. It's not because I'm bisexual that I like him okay. But yeah, I guess I've got new friends, don't I? I still miss you though... I'll always miss you...
Love
Jace
