"I'm sure it'll be fine" Nate said while driving me down to the station. I needed to go to give a statement about what happend with André when we got attacked. André was fine, he got treated and should've a full recovery. We hadn't really talked about what happend or what was said. We hadn't seen each other either.
"I don't know Nate... This is the second time this happens..." I sighed.
"They don't know that" he said.
"They'll search on this gang and they'll find I've encountered them before, I promise you" I sighed and stared out the window. The police station came into view and I looked back at Nathan.
"You'll be okay, you're just overreacting, like always" he smiled.
"Such a drama Queen"
"Hey!" I said and slapped him.
"Watch out! I'm driving!" he laughed and I rolled my eyes.
"But you're MY drama Queen, for that matter, and I really care about you even though you blow every small thing up until it's the event of the century"
"You said you liked your birthday party!" I stated.
"I did!" he laughed and parked near the entrance.
"And now get your ass out of my car and go find Nick"
I sighed and unbuckled my seat belt. When I opened the door and got out of the car, I had the feeling all eyes were on me. The feeling everyone knew about everything and that they were all just staring at me, waiting for me to slip and spill a secret. No, I was just imagining things... Nobody was watching me, all the guys that attacked are dead and I'm fully safe... I started making my way over to the station when someone held me back.
"Oh hi Jason, I'm glad you came in" Nick smiled.
"Come on, follow me, I know where you need to go"
And so I did, without any questions. We didn't talk, to each other or someone else. I hated this silence... Nick guided me to an interrogation room and signed me to sit down. Not much later another officer walked in. He seemed to be more important than Nick for some reason but I didn't really knew the rankings.
"Hello Mr Anderson, I'm detective Barnes" he introduced himself and shook my hand before sitting down.
"We would like you to answer a few questions, if that's okay?"
"I-I thought I needed to give a statement?" I asked and looked at Nick, who was standing in front of the door on the inside of the room.
"We'll get to that" he said and gave me a soft smile before regaining his neutral pose.
"So, is it true you were at the cinema when the events happend" Barnes asked and I nodded.
"Together with your friend, André Samoye?"
Once again I nodded and stared at the table.
"Would you like to tell us what happend at the moment of the attack?" he asked.
"W-well, uhm, André and I just went to s-see that new movie that came out" I started.
"We were o-on our way home when they just came o-out of nowhere... They attacked me a-and I tried to defend myself, but they got André... I managed to free him and we escaped but he got shot in his leg a-and I started to panic so I hid and then you guys came"
"And what happend in between? In the time you hid and the time we arrived? Your friends wound was already treated" Barnes asked.
"I-I called Nathan Wheeler" I said. Better tell the truth right? I mean it wasn't a crime or anything.
"And why did you call Mr Wheeler?"
"I-I was freaking out a-and didn't know what to do... H-his voice always calms me down so I called him"
"Wait, you're the gay couple, right?" Barnes asked, thinking about something. Well there was only one gay couple in town around our age so I just nodded.
"Ah yes, you're my nephews friend! Now I know why your name sounded so familiar!"
"Y-your nephew, sir?"
"Sander" he explained.
"I'm his uncle, from his mother's side"
That explained why I didn't recognize the last name... Sander never told me his uncle was a police detective...
"But anyway, what happend after you called Mr Wheeler?"
"H-he started explaining how to get the bullet out and clean the wound" I said.
"He said I needed to burn it to stop the bleeding, but I needed to get the bullet out first to avoid infection... I did everything he told me to do a-and then you came and took him away"
"And how does Mr Wheeler knows this information?" Barnes asked, slightly confused and a bit concerned. I just shrugged.
"Grey's Anatomy"
"Isn't that that medical drama Angela watches?" Nick asked confused and I nodded.
"Nate is basically doctor, so he said himself" I shrugged and looked back at detective Barnes.
"Anything else you need to know?"
"Yes" he said and got a tablet from one of the drawers. He started playing a video, security footage. You could see André and I walking and getting attacked. You could see me fighting and than the image suddenly went black. A few moment later the camera worked again but there was no trace of me and André. Only bodies laying on the ground... It switched to another camera where you could clearly see me dragging André into the woods with me while he was bleeding and hopping on one leg.
"How can it be that two regular teenagers escape an organized attack of a well known gang and get away practically unharmed?" Barnes asked but I could hear it was a rhetorical question.
"Well, we did some digging..."
Fuck. I knew it! I knew this was gonna happen!
"This wasn't the first time you had a confrontation with these guys, was it?"
He showed me the new article that describes Jacksons death.
"They were targeting you and your brother, weren't they?
I didn't react. I just stared at the table. Barnes sighed and went on.
"Your twin, Jackson Anderson, didn't survive the attack but you did. Your family moved here not long after"
"What do you want?" I asked with tears stinging in my eyes.
"Yes, they killed my brother. Yes, they were after me! Is that what you wanted to hear?!"
"But why?" he asked. I could see in his eyes he knew why.
"Do you know why they're after you, Mr Anderson?"
I clenched my fists. There was no point in denying it now...
"Because my biological father was their greatest enemy and they're looking for the fortune he left behind. They think my family still has it"
"And do you?" he asked. I just stared at him. Was he really just going to ask me? No one with at least a little bit of common sense would answer yes to that question.
"Of course not. My mother left him before he even got arrested and she took both me and my brother, nothing else" I stated.
"We just want a new start, detective Barnes. One where people wouldn't judge me because of my father and now you ruined it"
"Did you know about the criminal activities your father was involved with?"
"I was just a child! Of course not" I hissed.
"Who do you even think I am?!"
"You bought your boyfriend a rather expensive car for his birthday, Mr Anderson" Barnes stated on a calm tone.
"So you're either gonna tell us the truth or we're gonna be here for a while"
"I'm not talking without my lawyer" I hissed and that was the end of the friendly approach.
