Pov Nathan
When Jace and I were walking to school I saw Emily walking on the other side of the street.
"Hey Emily!" Jace yelled and I flinched. Why did he have to do that? Why couldn't he just ignore her? I sighed as he pulled me across the road. Well this was gonna be awkward...
"Jace" she laughed but that smile faded a bit when she saw me. Of course it did..."Walk to school together?" Jason asked and my eyes shot open. Did he really just ask that?! I looked at Emily with a pleading gaze. Please say no...
"Sure" she said, only to torture me. I was quiet on our way to school. Why would I want to talk? I had no reason to share anything with her.
"Oh look, it's Ella, I need to go" Emily said as we arrived at school and walked away, finally."It was really nice talking to you Jace, I'll see you later"
"Yeah, see ya later" Jace smiled as she left. He was probably already enchanted by her smile and her deep blue eyes... Ugh, I hated that girl.
"You're quiet"
I jumped up a bit when he said that. So he noticed...
"Oh uhm, I just don't really, you know, talk to Emily anymore..." I sighed."What? Why?" he asked confused.
"It doesn't matter..." I said and I scanned the square, looking for my friend. Aha, gotcha.
"Come on"
I dragged him along towards Simon.
"Simon! Hey"
"Jace, this is Simon, Sim this is Jace. He's the new guy from 21 down Cloverstreet""Oh right, the new people" he said.
"I saw your parents in the shop this weekend, they seem nice"
"Wait what?" Jace asked confused.
"Oh, Jace moved here from the city" I explained.
"Ah, explains a lot" Simon said and smiled.
"So hey, I'm Simon. My parents own a shop in the center of town and I help them out in the weekends. That's how I met your parents. They were obviously new, didn't know how to find anything...""Yeah, you should get used to that, they won't remember" he said and Sim rolled his eyes.
"But yeah, I'm Jace, the new guy"
"Good to meet you, I hope" he smiled and looked at me with a smug face. Did he think I had a crush on him?!
"What? Dude" I hissed and slapped him on his shoulder.
"No""Am I missing something?" Jason asked a bit confused.
"No!" I said immediately and looked a bit pissed at Simon.
"Jace, why don't I show you the secretariat so you can get all the info you need"...
"So which class you're in?" I asked as we got outside.
"I'm in MS"
"What? Math and Sciences?" I asked. I didn't saw him as that kind of a guy.
"Something wrong with that?"
"No, I just didn't expect it""Why? What do you do?"
"Economics" I said.
"Well didn't saw that one coming" he said and walked on.
"What's that supposed to mean?" I asked laughing and stopped him.
"Economics matter" I said as serious as I could."But you don't"
I saw Peter standing behind Jace and bit my lip. He shouldn't get caught up in this.
"Jace, go" I whispered and pushed him aside.
"W-what? Why?"
"Just go" I hissed and Simon pulled him away. Good...
"What do you want this time Peter?" I asked without making any eyecontact."You know exactly what I want Wheeler" he hissed and took me by my shirt. Only seconds later I was laying on the ground and Peter was kicking me. I just let it happen... I couldn't fight him, I had tried. It would only make things worse...
"Back off! What's wrong with you?!"What? I looked up to see Jace standing between me and Peter. No, no, no, no...
"Who's this Wheeler? Your little faggot? Hm?" he laughed and wanted to hit him just as Sandra came outside to stop this fight. He stood up for me... No one ever did that, not even Simon......
I kinda ignored Jason for as long as I could after that. Someone must've told him... Told him why Peter beats me up... What if he was homophobic like the most people here? What if he hated me now? I wanted to be his friend, be around him... At lunch I saw him entering the canteen. Emily walked up to him and recruited him to the popy table. I sighed. Of course she would take my chance on friendship away... Why wouldn't she? I just stared at my table, knowing I'd be alone for the rest of the time because Simon went to eat at home.
"Hey"
I looked up and my eyes shot open with shock. Jason was standing in front of me, smiling. I didn't respond, he just sat down and took out his lunch. Was this some kind of prank? What did he want?
"What are you doing?" I whisper hissed.
"Uhm, eating lunch?" he said and began to eat.
"B-but..." I started.
"No buts" he said sternly and looked at me. He was dead serious."If Peter wants to pick on you because you fall for guys than that's his problem. I don't really see the point, I mean, we always supported coming outs at my previous school. And we had a really hard anti-bully policy"
I smiled weakly at him, knowing I could stay friends with him wihout worry.
"G-guess the city is better on that front... We're quite conservative here in Emelo..." I sighed."Tss, they don't know what they miss" he laughed. Wait. Was he gay too? Was that the reason he didn't despice me?
"Wait... a-are you...?" I asked.
"Oh, uh, no" he said immediately and I saw him getting lost in his own thoughts. We didn't talk for long after that because Peter interrupted us."Hallo there little fag" he said angrily and pulled Jason out of his chair.
"Now where were we this morning?"
"Peter stop" I said and stood up. Time to return the favor...
"I-it's me you want... And besides, Jason is not even into guys so..."
"Doesn't matter" Peter hissed and looked back at him."So you like to protect faggots like Wheeler? Great. Then you'll get treated as one"
He punched Jace in the stomach and I flinched. He wanted to kick him again but Jason was first. He kicked him in the balls and kicked with his knee in his face as he bended over. Peter fell to the ground and he stopped. How the hell did he do that?! Peter was the strongest person in this school!"You like the punch people because they love the same sex? Not on my watch big guy" Jace smirked and sat back down at the table.
"H-how did you do that?" I asked with wide eyes.
"I like martial arts" was all he answered before we were interrupted, again...
"That was quite impressive"
"Thanks Emily" he said as he turned around to face her."Ella is throwing a party this weekend, you're welcome to join us"
She handed him a small card and left.
"S-she invited you over?"
"Yeah but I'm not really into parties so I probably won't even go" he said like it was nothing."Jason, the parties of her and her friends are the most exclusive parties in this town" I started.
"If you're there it means you actually are important"
"Tss, popularity doesn't bother me that much" he shrugged.
"And I would rather spend the weekend with you anyways""W-what?"
What did he just say? H-he wanted to spend the weekend with m-me? For r-real? I felt my cheeks burning up while trying to hide it. But I failed miserably.
"Yeah, as friends I mean. Hang out and stuff" he clarified.
"Oh, uh, yeah, of course..." I muttered and ate on. Than why did I wanted it to be more than just friends..?
