Returning to the Lake

The sun hung low in the sky, illuminating the four friends (plus Lisa, and Jess who had shown up right after them), as they sat by the waters edge, waiting for everyone else to arrive. Sam was toying with a stick, absently peeling off the outside of it as the others talked.

He felt content, for the first time in ages he could just relax. Gabriel was surprisingly quiet as well, he was leaning back on his elbows and staring out at the lake with a thoughtful look on his face.

Sam watched him for a moment, but quickly looks away when he feels another set of eyes on him. It was Jess, she was smiling slightly as she followed where his gaze had been. There was no jealousy in her eyes, no disgust, just happiness for her friend.

That's when it hit Sam, he was single now and so was Gabe. Suddenly this weekend held a lot more promise for them. Smiling at the thought, Sam went back to stripping the stick contently, the sun warming his back as he rolled onto his stomach.

Everything was peaceful, the lake was still and quiet. Then came the noise of a car screeching into the grassy area by the gravel drive and everyone looked up. Well, if he was being honest, Sam did more of a jump-out-of-his-skin movement first. But no one needed to know that if they hadn't noticed.

"I wonder who that is," Dean mutters sarcastically as he climbs to his feet and no doubt goes to see if his baby was okay.

The others eagerly run over to the new arrivals. Sam grins widely as a certain energetic red-hair leaped out of Lucifer's car and runs up to them screeching.

"'SUP BITCHES!"

"Charles!"

"Charlie!"

Gabe and Dean are the first to yell and sweep her up into a bear hug. Cas follows and Sam is right behind him, without yelling in greeting of course.

Charlie was laughing in delight as she hugged her old friends. When she got to Sam, she pulled back slightly and studied him.

"Michael told me why you are so quiet, but mute or not I wanna know one thing."

Sam tilted his head in confusion, giving her a questioning look.

"Did you get fucking taller?"

He laughs silently and ducks away from her as the others chuckle as well.

"Language Charlie," Jo scolds as she slides out of the car.

"Jo!" Dean scooped their friend up and hugged her as well.

"I expect a greeting like that too, otherwise this'll get awkward," A familiar voice drawled in a strangely British accent as someone followed Jo out of the car.

"Balthy, my favourite older brother," Gabriel grinned, throwing himself onto his brother.

Lucifer stepped around the car with a hurt expression, "Did you hear that Mikey, I'm not his favourite brother anymore."

"You never were," Gabe shot back sassily.

Lucifer mimes being shot in the heart as everyone else wwent back to being busy with the long over-due reunion.

"Shall we go inside then?" Michael asked, picking up his bag.

Gabriel was smirking as he picked up his bag, which was something Sam should of worried about as the shorter boy casually walked behind him.

Sure enough, before Sam could click onto what was happening, Gabriel swung his bag onto his back and leaped up onto Sam's back with a chuckle.

"Remember this Sammy?"
